Gran always used to say 'Up the dancers' at bedtime.

I bet almost everyone has heard this from their children when asked where they were going:

Out.

If I asked my Dad for something he would say 'Who do you think I am, Rothchild?

A few years ago, way after his death, I discovered that someone from his family once worked for Lord Rothchild

If I asked where something was, he would say ' Up in Nellie's room behind the clock'

The cow's tail story I remember, and ' the bone in my leg' one too.

Vera - my mam used to say "What's the matter, got a bone in your leg". I haven't heard that expression for years :-)

Joy - in our house that expression was always "Hells bloody bells" :-0

My mum used to say she was “all behind like a cow’s tail” and if my dad asked you to get up and do something for him and you pulled a face, it was “What’s the matter? Got a bone in your leg?”

Lazy mans load. is what my Mother in law would say if you carried lots of bags so you wouldn’t take more than one trip to the car to bring them all in.

"I'm growing down like a cow's tail".

Hell's bells!

When Dad said that we knew his patience was being tested.

I remember saying it once when I was a small child and the look I got from Dad ensured that I never used that expression again (while I was young anyway). :-D

I think Fred used to use his own words. I must have been about twelve before I understood that anything that went round and round, particularly on top of a helicopter, was not actually called a wibbygizzer.

Things that particularly annoyed or upset him gave him the pyackers.

The only reason I know is because of an annual medical I needed to have in my last job, they said I am over weight for my height and I said you are looking at the wrong height I’m really 5’ 8” :-D

My gran used to say, of tall people - 'They've got long bones'.
This is, of course true, but why didn't she just say they were tall? :-S

One of my Dads was. It makes you want to throw the whole house up the chimney. Usually when things didn’t quite go to plan.
