Our brother peter born 1941 was diagnosed with lung cancer 18 months ago

He had chemo and at his last check in March was ok no cancer showing

He wouid have a six month check and had an appointment two Fridays ago but he had been off for a couple of days and when his daughter came to pick him up he was having breathing problems so she called the ambulance

He has pneumonia but scans have shown a big mass in the same lung

He was in a Covid ward because of his breathing but they got him into a general ward ASAP

His diagnosis is terminall 2 to 6 months and only palliative care because he is too unwell for chemo

Sadly he is failing very fast, his daughter is with him and we did a FaceTime on Saturday because he wanted to see his sisters

His son lives in South Africa and can’t get over because of Covid

His daughter was asked to stay with him today,she has been with him since 2 pm but the nurses have asked her to stay

It’s all very stressful as he seems to be on his last journey

I live in Kent
One sister lives in south east London
Youngest sister lives in Canada

Thank god for technology because we could FaceTime him and talk to him and he could see us

We can’t be there to support his daughter who is an absolutely wonderful lady but he was able to see his sisters which was a comfort to him

He wanted to see his family

He had too done a FaceTime with his son and his family

You feel helpless at such times and especially now when Covid is putting more restrictions

It's great that you could all FaceTime Peter and I hope his daughter has lots of support as she helps her Dad at this time.

I am sorry to hear your news. At least he is able to contact his family. My brother in law was in a hospice earlier this year and he couldn’t use his phone in his room. He was too unwell to go out into the communal areas. Luckily my OH spent most of the day with him and would keep popping out into the corridor to check phones.

It was a nightmare for us, so pleased that your brother can have the contact. Everyone used to have to text OH and then wait for him to check and phone back. Neither phones nor IPad would work. We even bought a fancy new phone for him.

He is holding on

They thought he would pass last night but suddenly at 5am he woke up and was very active

Doctors were surprised he had rallied so much but were it often happens they have a burst and then a big fall back

His daughter is with him still

Her daughter bought a change of clothes and hygiene products in but was only allowed to leave them for collection

Sadly it’s only a matter of time

What is very sad is his wife .who had carers every day, can’t visit because she is too vulnerable to infection

He is still in a main ward but curtained off ,they wanted to put him in a side ward but don’t have one available
