Nothing bodes well at the moment. I am trying to search my brain, Rollo. I think it was 1986 when the pound dropped dramatically and some friends lost a heap of money due to the exchange rate. |

There are times when a degree in maths is more useful than Greek and Latin classics ( aka "Greats" ). |

I believe that had Van Tam not been shipped off for speaking his mind, we would all have gained from his experience and clear thinking. |

Maybe all those people who criticize the way the government is handling the pandemic would make much better job of it.I bet they would not like to have to. |

I have just asked a retired senior police officer about the army being called in. He had not seen the news but his reaction was 'What!!' He would be surprised if any police force would call on them. I will not say here what he said about Boris! |

The only people not wearing masks this morning in our Tesco Metro were a group of youngish men from the building site down the road. all others, young teenagers, around 30-40 year olds and elderly were wearing masks. |

Around here it's mostly the middle age and older people that are not wearing masks the young ones seem very clued up but the some of the older men seem to think it's all a big hoax must say I was very pleased to hear that the police can call on the army for help if needs be I've been saying they should be called out since we came out of lock down I think people will take more notice of them then the police |

I think the problem for most of the Americans is that it is a once in a lifetime trip to the UK and they want to see as much as possible. |

Well we used to laugh at German tourists in America when we were there (as tourists of course as well). we would be at a tourist 'place' reading everything of interest that was on display and taking photos and generally having a good walk around. Some of them would zoom in in their hire cars, open the window, lean out, take a photo, shut the window and drive off. |

Ann, I realise they're enjoying it - but they should enjoy it with care, and consideration! :-D :-D |

I used to work in Winchester and it used to amuse me in the summer to hear the American tourists say things like "We did Wells this morning, now we're doing Winchester and later we're going to London." :-D :-D |

Trouble is Maggie you do live in a beautiful city and people are enjoying it. I have been a tourist there, with my camera but not during Covid of course. It is difficult though I realise that when you are going about your normal life. They are obviously not thinking. I don't wear a mask walking down the street but I did in town because of the number of people. Our bus driver stopped a man getting on the bus until he had put his mask on, which he did. |

Our nearest Aldi has a traffic-like system at the entrance. If there are a certain number of customers in the store, the red traffic light will indicate that one must queue until the green light shows people have left the shop and there is space to enter. |

Then tell them Barbara. Write to the chief exec. and voice your disappointment in his company. |
