I received a text message on Saturday morning from my GP to advise that my samples submitted as part of the National Bowel Screening Programme had come back clear and there was no need for any further action.

The only problem is I did not submit the samples until last Wednesday (22nd) and the lab is in NSW.

The local post box is not cleared until 5.00pm.

I don't know how long the tests take, but when I phoned the surgery to enquire about the swiftness of the results I was advised that the results were received by them on Friday.

I still fail to comprehend how they could have been done so soon, particularly as OH submitted hers the previous week and has still not had her results :-S

There is another person not 5 kms from here with precisely the same name as myself. I have met him on a few occasions several years ago. He might be a bit young to go on the Screening Project; but?

The surgery did ask me twice for my date of birth, and I do know that t'other Allan has a different DoB.

How do I know? Several months ago I went to the opticians to make an appointment for an eye test. I gave the girl my name and she checked on the computer and said ' Ah date of birth' and gave me a totally different date.

It was my first visit to this particular optician so I had to explain about the confusion.

If the results were mine, then I would expect a letter from the Screening Project very soon advising me of the results

I hope all is well Allan and you get a letter with your own results soon.

Mistaken identity, especially over medical matters shouldn't happen, but I know it can.

Some years ago, but into their 90s, my in-laws had a phone call and mother in law answered. The caller said they were ringing from the hospital in the nearby town and confirmed that they were speaking to Mrs. (forename and surname)
They were really sorry to tell her that her husband had died that morning.
M in L assured them that he was very much alive and at that moment was working at his computer upstairs.
What a terrible mistake to make.
The bereaved lady had the same surname and very unusual first name and lived in the same town. Somehow, their details had been mixed up.
