Depending where you are, there are carers' groups you can attend or access online for advice and support.

Anything that helps, especially through the early days, must be worth finding, so you don't feel quite so alone.

I am not in a position where I can really advise, as I've no experience, but I would say to the new carer, Try to find time for yourself amidst your caring hours.

Whether it's taking advantage of an offer of respite, an hour or so to yourself or even just time for a quiet cuppa at the beginning or end of the day, these times of 'normality' can help recharge you for the full-on work of caring for someone.

I wish them all well and able to cope with their new roles.

Sad news and I can only echo other's words to say that I wish this new carer all the best in learning what works for them and the patient and rest of the family.

I am often around all night so whoever you are, feel free to shout out for company or a shoulder to lean on if needed.

Not having been in that position I can't offer advice but send every good wish to the people involved. Remembering your posts on your dad I'm sure your advice is invaluable.

As Ann said we are all here to chat by pm if needed. My parents had Dementia (different types) and sometimes another person to chat or moan too is much needed. A listening ear can be a lifeline.

Sending all good wishes to the person that they can cope as well as you did while meanwhile keeping us entertained. It is sad to see a parent reduced to needing help and I hope the parent can continue to enjoy life. I am sure that the person feels confident that you are the one to offer support but please say that we are all here if any extra support is needed, probably by PM. <3

Not naming any names because they are discrete and don't make a song and dance about it like I did, but somebody contacted me yesterday because they are now in the same position as was I with Fred. Newly delivered stroke victim parent at home.

I am sure we would all like to wish this person all good luck with teir somewhat unenviable task, although I do look back with a feeling of happy fulfillment on those seven years I had of it!

Bearing in mind that I was a maverick when it came to caring (caring?!)and I know that there were others quietly beavering away at the same thing when I was who chose quite wisely not to shout their mouths off about it and wondered if anybody might like to put any good advice they may have as well as good wishes to this person.
