Denburybob

Last monday I tripped over my own feet and fell down the front garden steps on to the drive, causing considerable bruising and pain. The next day my hand came up like a balloon so I rang 111. They asked lots of questions and said it didn't sound broken, so pain killers, rest and cold compress till it goes down. Today my wife, in her wisdom made me go to the hospital, where an x-ray showed a "significant fracture". I am now wearing a splint and awaiting an appointment with an orthopaedic specialist. Any other experiences with 111?

I phoned them once, when a lady up the road phoned me to say she was incredibly dizzy.
I rushed round, to (luckily) find she'd opened the front door, as, by the time I got there, she was on the floor, conscious, and being sick. Just very very dizzy. She had no injuries as she'd (as she told me) slowly slid to the floor.
I phoned 111, who actually called an ambulance.
The lady was kept in overnight, and came home the next day.
She had been taking drugs for the dizziness, and a vitamin deficiency, but one of the drugs didn't 'agree' with her.

The arm is now in a plaster cast, the fracture being more serious than at first suspected. At least I can still drive.

Poor you Bob and in the heat of summer. Was it too much Pimms maybe?

Anyway hope it heals quickly and the cast will soon be off.

I am curious, Bob. How can you still drive with one arm broken and presumably in a sling of sorts - with the use of that hand severely restricted? Do you drive an automatic?

Just trying to imagine it....

I have been in a similar situation over forty years ago but without being able to drive.

Only the lower arm is in plaster, and all the work is done with the left hand. Hardest part is turning the key in the ignition. This would happen when I have so much work to do in the garden.
