Has got if wrong.

The second world war did not end on this day in 1945.

That war came to an end in September.

I hate it when people don't check facts before putting something important into print. :-|

King George VI announced on 7.5 at 21:00 via radio that Germany Surrendered to the Allies, and that the following day would be celebrated as Victory in Europe



All of this is fine but it wasn't the 'end of the war' this didn't happen until the Japanese also surrendered aboard USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay on 2nd September 1945 nearly 4 months after VE day.


They were surrendering all over the place for days and weeks but the OFFICIAL signing date was the 8th

In Churchills speech he said May 8th, Victory in Europe, not the end of the war as a whole

Yes, Bob, it was 2 September.

(15 August was VJ Day.)

My Dad had a photo of the signing and I knew a translator who was also there.

Like Bob, I knew that after the surrender was signed, there were dribs and drabs holding on for a while.

My son is the holder of the photo now. :-D
