I haven't met anyone in person, but I did make contact some years ago with a young woman who had put up a tree on here that had to be my father's siblings, except that all the dates were way out of whack.

I contacted her, she went home, and came back to me saying "My dad is your first cousin. He apparently said ""That's our Sylvia" as soon as she mentioned the pm.

He and his brother were the youngest of the children of my Dad and his siblings, and I think the last time I saw them was sometime in the late 1940s/early 1950s. That also answers how she got all the dates so wrong ...... he'd hadn't known the rest of the family very well.

I looked forward to more contact, but he died very suddenly less than a year later of COPD. I kept in contact with his daughter for a couple more years and helped her with her tree.

Through DNA, I've traced my dad's mum's family back to 1280 and before, and can honestly claim to be 50% Cornish - that is until you get back a wee bit further (I've tentatively gone back to 1180) and realise there are a few Normans!
I haven't met any of the hundreds/thousands of descendants though :-D
Also, through DNA, I've found I haven't got any 'British' DNA at all.
I have Celtic, ie Cornish. Cornwall didn't become part of the UK until the 1500's. Scandinavian - Sufflok lot - Vikings, and Iberian - goodness knows! (though there was the Barbary slave trade that affected Cornwall) :-S

Oh yes!

A cousin I had not met for some fifty years who told me about just about every illness she had ever suffered and then sent me a letter detailing the faults in my character.

I had had my mother for that, I didn't want any more!

Yes.
Many years ago, I met up with Kitty ( of cooking fame) who used to post on here.
With her daughter and my OH we went grave searching in Littlehampton for linked relatives.

I bought grandson a DNA kit, at his request. I'm still hopeful of links from that, on my maternal line.

Last year, in London, I met distant relatives from New Zealand.
They descend from the brother of my great, great grandfather, who emigrated c. 1859

Have you found and met new family as a result of being on here or Facebook or indeed Ancestry with DNA?
