Good afternoon peeps
I just wanted to share something with you that just may help others in a similar situation.
Since my op and when I was in ICU, I was very breathless.I couldn't lean back or lay down without feeling suffocated. On being transferred to the ward on the mon, I was still very breathless. Tues am, the dr doing the ward rounds came to see me. When I told him, he just said it takes 6 weeks for the heart to settle down but I said im worse now than before. They had put me on Aspirin for the last 5 days! When I queried this because im severely allergic to Ibruprofen which in the same group of meds, I got told, well you have to have it for anti clotting and that was the end of the conversation.
I had to sit in a chair all night because I couldn't get into bed, was blooming awful with just a nod for 1/2 hour here and there.
So fast forward to yesterday. I have been still very breathless almost having an asthma attack.One of my drsain sights was gapi8ng open and oozing so I tel gop surgery.
Within 1/2 hour2 nurses in full gowns etc came.She cleaned it and redressed it.She asked me how long I had been so breathless so I told her.

Within 1/2 the gp tel to say he was concerned and came out fully gowned to see me.I told him everything.he then listened to my chest.He said it was so tight, he was amazed how I was still breathing!
He immediately stopped the Aspirin for an alternative and was really annoyed at the hospital for giving me the Aspirin knowing full well im asthmatic.
So today stared a week of steroids and new tab.

So if any Asthmatics out there are going to have surgery which requires Aspirin and you cant take Ibruprofen, be aware of the consequence and don't let them fob you off like they did me.
This last week has hindered my recovery and also made me very anxious.
Im writing a letter of complaint to the hospital.

it will take up to 10 days for the Aspirin to get out of my system but the steroids should kick in tomorrow and then I should feel more settled.

On a brighter note, I managed outside for a little walk around the garden and soaked up some Vit D as its still glorious up here

Sorry to hear that you've had a rough time, because of medication prescribed by the hospital.
Thank goodness your local nurses and GP have visited and helped remedy the situation.
I hope you soon feel a lot better and are able to take more little walks in the lovely sunshine, as you recover.

You have gone through a lot good job you had help .it can take a.bit of time for meds to clear your system just enjoy the sunshine & take your time you will be fine Best wishes Barbara :-)

Thankyou ladies. I put together a letter of complaint this afternoon and daughter posting it when she goes out for her daily walk.
My GP tel this afternoon to check on me...really good of him. I told him I was writing a letter and he agreed that I was right to do so.

He said I was to tel surgery on thurs to let him know if im better, worse or the same. heres hoping the steroids will have kicked in by then.
Still a beautiful sunny afternoon here...glorious but im too breathless just walking from lounge to kitchen so have been sitting most of the afternoon conserving energy!

Recovery from any major operation is like a game of Snakes and Ladders, being given the incorrect medication doesn't help either :-(

It looks as though your GP has got the issue covered, so may it be many more ladders than snakes from now on :-D

Disgusting that you weren't listened to at the hospital Florence. Maybe it should be added to your medical notes!

I hope now your GP and co are involved you will feel much less breathless and the sun will get you outside to relax

Morning Liz. It was in my notes!!
Im not good today and can hardly walk without being severlely out of breath.
Have left a message with surgery and dr will contact me as soon as he can.

I seem to be far worse than I was before surgery and don't think it should be like this.

Never felt so scared and anxious in all my life. Last night, I was too scared to sleep.

So going off just now and will post later an update on what gp says.

Thinking of you Florence. Hope that your Steroids kick in big-time soon. If not, perhaps you need a higher dose or dofferent steroids.

Keeping my fingers crossed that you have a good sleep tonight. Especially as sleep is so good for recovery.

Well guess who ended up in the local hospital last night!
GP was really concerned so ordered an amulance at 2.30.It didn't arrive til 5.15 as they were really busy.
Because of my breathing, I went to the Acute Respiritory Unit and was basically treated as if I had the virus until my bloods came back and they checked my recent surgery. Then decided I was not a risk and my condition was unrelated to Covid 19.
So after xrays, echos, bloods and millions of questions they admiited me upstairs for the night.
I eventually calmed down and rested and the night passed ok without any further episodes.
The conclusion was this, im not to try and take deep breaths but small shallow ones and only walk 2 steps, stop breathe twice and repeat.This will keep my heart rate down.
Saw a Cardiologist this morning and hes happy with the surgery but says I must rest, rest, rest and it will get easier.
Got home on patient travel bus around 3.15. So hot in the hospital, glad im in the coolness of my own home.
Hope this will be my last visit to a hospital for many a months to come!

Well, at least it must have put your mind at rest, Florence as you must have got yourself naturally very worried and anxious.....hopefully, now you can relax and rest in the knowledge that you have been thoroughly checked over and that how you feel now is a natural progression to full recovery <3 <3 <3

Hope you feel better soon, Florence, and can relax properly.

I think the term you need is ‘baby steps’ :-)

Good to know that your local health team are sensible and taking every step to help you.

Take it gently and rest as directed, then you will hopefully soon feel a lot better.
