My cousin Val had it but she only had a mild case that slightly weakened one leg - she had to do a lot of walking to build up the muscles again

that's reminded me Pat -one of my aunts had it as a child . She always had difficulty walking

Von...I remember having my tonsils out in the cottage hospital and there was a boy in an iron lung in our ward..it scared me to death

They had to be away from their families for a very long time in those hospitals didn't they! :-(

Parents not allowed to see them for a couple of days after an op and only at visiting times when they could.

It is strange now to think of people dying of things so easily cured by antibiotics now

They were Von...the image has stayed in my mind all these years..I can still see his lovely little face and often wondered did he get fully well again :-( :-(

I remember making the trip to go see dad and he was on the verandah in his bed :-D :-D :-D

Yes. My sister was quarantined when she had scarlet fever and they burnt her teddy.

Fresh air was always prescribed for TB.

Loved to know how they did it at Goscote Isolation Hospital in Walsall with all our foundries :-S

They worried about the spread of infection Jem not realising they were traumatising the poor children :-(
