Not watching Channel 5 as it will just be a load of opinions, none of them really know.

I did just read they had left Archie in Canada when they returned the other day - surely there was a BIG clue there that something big was going to happen very soon ;-)

I think I might do Maggie.

You mean the 'I was totally untrustworthy over 20 years ago, but still insist on giving my views for money', Burrell?

That's good.

Paul Berrell is on Channel 5.

That's that sorted then.

Yep, that's precisely what I mean. :-D

Allan, http://www.danceswithferrets.org/giles/ind41_50.htm Scroll down to Grandma as Britannia :-D

Allan Report 9 Jan 2020 21:39

I really do admire HM, not just because of her position, but with all the internal family problems that she has admirably coped with.

HM reminds me of the Grandmother in the Giles's cartoons, resilient, tough and still standing :-) :-) :-)

She'll cope, if she can manage the toe sucking, the 3 divorces, the association between her son and a paedophile, the disastrous tv interviews, 'that tape', the fire at Windsor, and for so many years hoping Philip won't put his foot in it when he meets visitors, and a stalker sitting on the end of her bed, I reckon she can cope with anything ;-)

To paraphrase Monty Python, He's not a Prince, he's a very naughty boy

I wonder if that is what the Queen is thinking at the moment.

Thankyou Rollo :-)

I second what Caroline said ................ they can come and live here, but Canadians cannot afford to pay security or otherwise support them.

They need to do what other A-list celebrities do ....... pay for their own security.

I also think they should have to pass the usual tests for admission to Canada as immigrants.

Ordinary folk, even wealthy ones, are not easily admitted to Canada if they only intend to split their time between here and another country. They usually have to set up businesses that will benefit Canadians (by paying taxes and employing Canadians).

Despite what Rollo says, there is quite a large proportion of Canadians who would not support the Royal Family ........... they are not Royalists.

For Rambling
regardless of what deal Johnson does with the EU ( or not ) the UK will pay pensions to UK citizens resident in ROI inc inflation increases. Uk citizens become entitled to ROI benefits which may apply as soon as they can pass the habitual residency test.

For those, especially the retired , who are not keen on living under the brexit regime the ROI is the only option if you cannot claim another EU passport by relation. You can keep your UK passport - not all EU states allow the holding of dual passports eg Spain.

Good for Harry! Now we know where the GR baubles went - the Prince has balls!
Andrew too should have done this years ago.

If he's stepping down from 'front line' Royal activity, I expect he'll step down from those positions, too.

My nephew has an Irish Passport. I think his grandfather was a labourer :-D

I also think it's the 'ex' employees who are spouting off their opinions as though it were fact, about Harry and Meghan, not current ones.

My late Father law would be horrified at them. The most I could get out of him (he was George VI's personal chef), was that, on HMS Vanguard and Britannia, he was the only member of crew addressed by a forename - he was called 'Bob' - though that wasn't his real name - it was Bill :-S
And George VI's favourite meal was roast lamb, followed by rice pudding!

The most recent report from the Palace is that they're helping Harry & Meghan to achieve their wish as soon as possible.

Something for me to bear in mind Rollo :-)

edit, Thanks, I have done Caroline a while back, re living relatives who settled there.

Pretty sure we're not complaining about having them live here but we don't want to pay to protect them mainly because we're not too rich :-) We'd get nothing out of the deal.

Is Harry a colonel in chief of some regiments? Will that be affected?

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 9 Jan 2020 18:25

My GGF was a Scottish piper who met and married a Swedish lass while the regiment was in Dublin. A few days after his son was born the army set sail for Portsmouth. This random event entitled me to an Irish passport wich I have had since the 80s. ROI passports allow you to go pretty well anywhere without neeeding a visa. HM Borders hate UK citizens travelling on ROI passports.

Failing finding an ancestor born in Ireland ( north or south ) Rambling could consider living for 4 years in Ireland which would entitle her to an Irish passport. Thanks to the 1922 Settlement Ramblin has the right to live in Ireland regardless of brexit. Cork and Dublin are a bit pricey Galway is more reasonable and very lively. The nearest airport is Shannon 50m.

If Scotland becomes an EU member in its own right then that might be an option but the ROI is probably quicker and available now.

I am quite a fan of Harry & Co but I do wonder how his proposed setup will work with all that air travel .... Climate change consideratio nscould damage the brand.

He will also find that long distance flying is not something you do for fun as you get older. Toddlers and flying are a pretty heady mix as well. Maybe it is not so bad if somebody elses pushes the trolley and ypu don't have to queue.

It is not going to impact hugely on the Royal Family and might mean that he has much more time to devote to his charities.

Had it been William and Catherine, now that would have been a very different can of worms.

Rambling

Rambling Report 9 Jan 2020 18:01

Is a year a "very short courtship" ( first meeting to engagement) ?

William's was 9 years, but that's not really the norm...is it :-S
