As an aside - King George VI's personal chef would have been making money in Portal's 'money mill', as his father, grandfather, g grandfather etc etc had done, if he hadn't, at the age of 19, got a 35 year old divorcee he was having an affair with, pregnant.
His mother, in disgust at what he'd done (though, of course, he couldn't have done it on his own) threw him out of the village they lived in, and he joined the Royal Navy, where he worked his way up.

Rose, Elizabeth Killigrew, one of Charles II's mistresses was a grand daughter of my g x loads Grandfather - Capt. Sir John Killigrew, and niece to my g x loads grandmother, Jane Michell (nee Killigrew)
Her brother Thomas (Playwright) invited Nell Gwynne (selling oranges at Drury Lane Theatre at the time) to become an actress in one of his plays - which is where Charles II saw her!

..must have been a little awkward :-S

...but a more stately 'King and The Actress' scenario :-D

Scandal in my family - Never!

Meghan gave up her acting when she and Harry got engaged 2017 ,,,,,,so was a free jobless woman,
Shes been in the real world, earned her own worth, lbeen married and divorced and bought her own propery more than once,,,,,,so some what more mature than Diana or Catherine,,,Catherine is happy to have a rule to stick to and have nothing to really stive for. and plays it well.

Meghan is a different kettle of fish,,,,,,,she needs a life away from royal protocol and planned fuctions months ahead and have a constraint life , shes more free spirited and Harry has much the same nature.

But the bottom line is,,,,,would you wish to remain in a country where it soon was discoved you are disliked or even hated for one reason or another,,,,,,,I doubt it.

Harrys marriage is full of chemistry that's not been seen in other royal marriages,,and it sets them apart that they will survive one way or another if left alone to enjoy it.

but do wish she wouldn't paw his back all the time or cling on lke hes going to run off...…. :-Dplus they are one less party to grope into the taxpayers pot.

On a scale of one to ten which of these do you think the most scandalous ? ;-) ( Not really asking lol, it's all subjective)

https://www.littlethings.com/royal-family-scandals

We 'do' genealogy here, most of us will have found some ancestor that was a bit naughty ( for their time, even if we don't consider it so now) ? If you've never shocked/surprised/ offended someone's sensibilities, "you've not lived Darling", ( you have to say that in the tones of Craig Revel Horwood ;-) ).

Beggar or Queen we're all only human...aren't we?

I agree with you Joy on Camilla, did wonder however
how long it would take for her to get slated.
Personally not fussed about any of them but if it's not
acceptable to be nasty about one its not acceptable to be
nasty about another imo.

AnninG ...........

I have been wondering the same thing about the differences between the UK press and the press over here.

I don't read the garbage papers and "magazines", but I see the headlines at the checkstands, and "stars" and "celebrities" get treated worse here than in the UK. And Harry will have less control of that in North America.

George and Amal Clooney, for example, allegedly close friends who have been giving advice ............. lots of insinuations when they got married and even worse when she was pregnant, along the same lines of "she's not pregnant, who are they kidding".

Within the last couple of weeks, Cameron Diaz, much more of a movie star than Meghan, announced she and her husband had had a baby, in her 40s, first one ............. you can perhaps guess how the "media that cover Hollywood" are treating that!! Everything from they kept that quiet, she couldn't possibly have had a child at her age, to she could, to "find the surrogate".

Yes, H&M will probably get privacy and ignored by ordinary people ....... although I feel that they like that adulation in person ........ but the media is a whole different thing.

Maybe they're just seeing the amount of money that the Obamas, the Clooneys, and many others are pulling in by selling themselves in public (appearances, after dinner talks, etc), in business (selling things online and in shops), and possibly movies.

Something like this Anne -

"Camilla simply kept her head down and her mouth shut" (Joy) I added - and her drawers off.

If only people would own their RR's and not be so pathetic.

Seems it's ok to post nasty unfounded comments about one royal but not the truth about another!!!!

I think it's time this thread was laid to rest. Just my opinion y'know. This is my last post here etc ;-) :-\

Oops Island what did you say? trod on somebody's toes obviously.

I did wonder whether M was suffering from PND, it probably didn't help having to adjust to all sorts of things while recovering from childbirth if she did. But surely if she was suffering from it they would have said. (Or were they frightened people wouldn't believe them?)
Although the media has followed them and commented on them closely I don't for one moment believe it was racist, as has been suggested, and I think it was more social Media and the trolling that went on that was more upsetting (and they did have their own Instagram and Twitter accounts etc, you can't use the social media for your own ends and not expect retaliation). Another thing is, do they think they are hidden from the social Media in North America, certainly there are already a couple of 'interviews' posted in the DM by people 'living near' where Meghan is on Vancouver Island. One remarking she knew she was there because of the dogs and her husband heard British voices earlier! I suspect living in North America/Canada will be not a lot different to living in UK and, while our journalists have protocol to follow I think N American papers are a lot more aggressive.

nameslessone

nameslessone Report 11 Jan 2020 14:09

When I saw the interviews inAfrica I thought that Harry was still in need of counselling and that Meghan may have had PND. She also needed to get together with other new mums and then she may have realised that once the baby had arrived everyone’s focus was now on the baby and not the mother.

I find it hard, Island.

Meghan was not only an older woman when she married Harry but was an actress so must have been used to some publicity. I thought early media reports were glowing with praise for the couple. What went wrong? Anyone's guess as we'll never really know. Although some people have written about it beginning with the couple's secrecy over Archie's birth it could just be a severe case of homesickness for all I know.

Diana got some glowing early press too. During her marriage difficulties she struggled but later I believe she courted the media to some extent. It's hard to switch off and on so easily when you involve other people. It is my belief that the press was not responsible for her death. In his sadness, it seems to me that her brother grasped for someone to blame but that is completely understandable when one is grieving.

Camilla simply kept her head down and her mouth shut - something to be learned there ... and I am not particularly a fan of Camilla.

Rambling

Rambling Report 11 Jan 2020 13:37

When Diana married there was no internet. She may have been criticised in some quarters, the newspapers and paparazzi may have pursued her. BUT There was not the constant flow of commenting which follows any article in the press, there were not the social media sites on which you can find everything from "Why didn't he marry an English rose?" to "why did he marry a ni**er! " and shades in between. Questioning her motives, questioning his judgement, questioning whether the child was theirs even.

Meghan may not have read them, but you can bet Harry with his experience of the media will have done. What sort of a man would he be if he didn't want to protect his wife and child from that? They may naively have thought that we were in the 21st century in this country ... now that WAS silly!

Meghan has always known how to earn money and isn't Harry a qualified pilot?

The Dutch king was an airline pilot until he acceded to the throne so I would think that they could earn themselves a comfortable living.
