Oh, Vancouver really is a joke when it snows ............ though I must admit that 15-20 cm of fine powdery snow in one night is more than we usually get!

OH said it was much lighter to shovel than our usual kind.

I haven't actually been out in the cold (got a tricky back at the moment so I didn't want to slip and make it worse), but OH has (except for today) ..... he said it was bitterly cold, and had very cold hands to show for it, despite wearing gloves!

The concept of borrowing another country's head of state was always somewhat wacky. Some countries growing out of the great English expansion just gave the Crown the boot and that was it (Jefferson and co, Ghandi) .

Some of the others just could not bear to cut the apron strings, others esp Canada and Oz found a virtual head of state politically useful so long as they did not have to pay for it.

So the day has finally arrived when real Royalty is going to show up and put down roots at least on a seasonal basis. The Canadian government has no legal power at all to prevent Harry living in Canada.. Neither can it refuse to pay the cost of armed protection - which will be much lower profile than right now in the UK.

Canada should do what it could have done and should have done a century ago and become a republic. It is a country which does not generally object to wealthy foreigners, billionaires even, who can barely speak French or English - especially in Vancouver where Mandarin Chinese will take you a long way.

The truth is that Canada can stop Harry and Meghan from settling in Canada .........

The only member of the Royal Family who has unlimited rights to live in Canada is the Monarch ........... no-one else in the RF has that right, not even the direct heirs.

Australia and NZ do not apparently have that restriction.

That means that other members are welcome to visit for short periods, and will be given protection if on an official visit, or even on short private visits, eg Harry visiting Meghan in Toronto, or their present stay on Vancouver Island.

Legally speaking they do have to obey the rules that ALL other UK citizens have to obey if they wish to settle here. That includes meeting all the criteria for whichever visa would allow them to enter Canada as a Permanent Resident.

Of course, there could always be the political angle to be played ..... an appeal directly to the Immigration Minister.

If they do get that status, then they have to abide by the laws of the land, including paying taxes here and probably also in the UK, and also living in Canada for a certain of days per year amounting to 3 years out of 5.


One thing that most Canadians, I think, do understand is that Canada is only a waypoint on their journey ......... as soon as Trump is out of office as President, they will hotfoot it down to Los Angeles, which is Meghan's home. That could be as early as January 2021 or as late as Janaury2025.

Will Harry go with her?? Who knows!

This means that they are not dedicated to becoming full time residents of Canada ............ and that can count against them in obtaining a visa.

Oh Sylvia why would you think you know more about your country than others...and those silly academics in Canada not knowing the correct situation either....of course he can do what he wants he's a Prince...oh hang on he doesn't want to be one...but hey ho it must be right we've been told it is....so 73% of Canadians are wrong and 1 Brit is correct......

Permanent Resident.is an option for them but their Duke and Dutches titles can not be used in Canada ,,another option for them that would give them top points is to have another child in CA,

if they go ahead and opt for plain Mrs and Mrs,,,,,,,then they can do whats legal and set up a working shop to earn a few $s to pay their own way,including bodyguards and not armed protection...

He looked very relaxed and happy on TV today,..no screwed up face and on edge as of late.

As they have no intention of staying in Canada past Trump it's acting against any application they make as Sylvia said......even her PR if she actually has it.

no-one knows whether M has PR in Canada. It is more probable that she came in under a special category that allows "qualified" people such as actors, athletes, to live and work here for certain specific periods of time.

If they go ahead as Mr & Mrs, it does not give them automatic entrance ................ as I said in my post earlier, they will have to jump through all the hoops that an ordinary Mr & Mrs has to do, even if they are a wealthy couple. Unless, of course, strings are pulled for them. But you can be sure there will people watching out for that, and "journalists" digging as deep as they can to find out the truth.

Ordinary Mr & Mrs are also not eligible for paid state protection .......... even A-list celebrities, which seems to be what they are aiming at becoming, have to pay their own security. AND no security is allowed to carry guns in Canada except for our own Mounties and local police forces. Even Trump-oids security detail have to check their guns when he comes here ...... which isn't often!


As I have also said earlier ............. the government is going to have to play its cards very carefully as almost ¾ of the Canadian population will object very strongly if any money is paid out to them.

Supose we'll have to bide our time and see what the next 6 months bring,,,,,,be like the hokey-cokey,,,,,,,left foot in and right foot out,,,, ;-)

Just seen a report that the staff have been laid off from Frogmore Cottage .......... none has actually lost their job as they were all working for the Royal Households when seconded to work for M&H on an "as needed" basis so they have just gone back to their original positions.

It's being said that that is a sign that M at least has no intention to live back in the UK in any really meaningful way.

Well that's her British citizenship gone then before she even got it.
