Jacky Milburn thought he might try being a dirty stop-out last night and started pestering at elevenish when he knows it is time to stay in.

I think he was quite pleased we wouldn't let him out when the fireworks started at midnight.He lay n the Sky box with eyes like saucers when they were happening but we talked to him all the time and he just got his head down when they had finished.

We had never had fireworks like that here before, somebody let off two at the millenium but this was a bit more prolonged.

I think it must have been the young couple who have to have everything.

Mr Tibbs my black cat with white bib and socks was doing his usual in and out all evening

He wanted out again at 11.30 and got quite agitated when I wouldn’t immediately comply with putting the recliner down and opening the back door

I realised it was nearing the witching hour and he was suddenly there scratching at the door when the bee fireworks started locally and by the time I quickly opened the door he had gone

Constant calling didn’t produce anything

At about 12.45 he was suddenly back scratching at the door and in he came but with a huge fluffed up tail

His usual stroke and patting on the head was accepted and he made himself comfy on the floor at my feet .

Felt bad that I wasn’t quick enough to let him in earlier :-(

How proud I am of Betty (cat), who managed to stay downstairs whilst fireworks went off from 11:15.
At 12:30, her trust in my mantra that 'They won't hurt you' died, and she trotted (rather than fled) upstairs to hide under my bed (like that will 'save' her)
It's only taken her 13 years to vaguely discover that bangs don't hurt! :-D :-D :-D

George (other cat) just slunk lower in the laundry basket.

Also, just realised I don't stay up to 'Welcome the New Year', it's to console the cats :-(
