9pm Mon 21 Oct on ITV1.

Each year around 60 bodies of British service personnel killed in battle are found on historical battlefields. In a 1.5 hour special to the popular TV series, Long Lost Family: The Unknown Soldiers sees presenters Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell capture the emotion as they follow the fascinating work of the MOD War Detectives team. Personal stories unfold as the team tries to identify those found, locate their families and invite them to Full Military Honours funeral services for their lost relatives.

I read about this in the TV guide.

Having had my DNA tested, one of the sites I loaded it onto had a section where they had someone gathering DNA for this sort of research. As Mum (and dad, as they were related) had a cousin who died in WW1 with no known grave, I intended to volunteer my own DNA for their records. Unfortunately I have never been able to access their website. But maybe some day...

I only caught the last half hour but it was excellent. When they were at Imjin barracks they were five minutes down the road from me (that is walking!).In a past life 19 years ago I worked there.

Excellent t.v. Informative and moving. I am delighted that the MoD does this research/ I wonder if they load the DNA results of unknown soldiers onto sites like Ancestry and see if they get a link.
Or do they do research first and only check DNA against that of actual potential family members.
