Thank you. I have James and Mary Ellen on the 1891 census and their marriage. But whe I go to find James on the 1881 census there are a couple of matches. So I thought that if I could find the marriage I might be able to work out which is him. I will have a look on free bmd now. Thankyou for your help x |

If you use a mix of FreeBMD and the census records it is usually possible to sort out this sort of thing. Watch out for spelling/transcription errors on the census records. |

You will only find a parent's name on the marriage cert itself, not on the index. Who did James marry please as it may give father's name on Parish register, eg at https://www.lan-opc.org.uk/ |

I have a James Ward born 1859 in Preston. When I have been on the GRO site there are a few with the same name born in the same area.. So knowing who he married I thought I would look for their marriage and hope there would be a parent name on there. But the new look site will only let you search births and deaths. Any suggestions please x |
