Lydia is mistranscribed in 1939

Lydia Morris (Unson) Mason on image DOB 25/7/08

3 White Hart Hotel High Street, Boston M.B., Lincolnshire (Parts of Holland), England

One closed record on same entry which may be daughter Irene? EDIT but probably isn't see below **

EDIT the words are obscured rather by the redacted entry, but it looks like Lydia was a chambermaid.

***On the redacted entry there is a long loop on one of the letters, below the redacted line.

Simon, could Irene have taken her stepfathers name of Morris?

I don't see Lydia on the 1939 under Mason, Kent or Morris (if they were in the same household)

MY grandfather's birth was registered twice - same name but two certificates with different fathers :-S

We think it could have been market day and the registrar may have partaken of too much ale! This is because the birth certificate grandfather had in his possession when he died was the one that gave that of his father's name - the one that showed he was living with in several censuses.

The same grandfather's death was registered in two names - he had completely changed his name by the time of his second 'marriage'.

Never be surprised at what pops up when you are digging, Simon.

Let us know if there are any notations on the BC - we might be able to suggest a way forward.

Have you sent a message to the person who has an Irene Mason in their tree? It may be the wrong Irene, but worth asking

Have you managed to find your grandmother on the 1939 register, or did she die after 1992?
Do you know her exact date of birth? Closed records after her entry might suggest that she kept Irene with her

Does your mother remember anything about Irene? Did they live together?

If the answer is NO, it might be an idea to purchase a copy of the BC - that would show if she was legally adopted out.

Hi My Mother shares the same Mother different fathers mother was Lydia Kent nee Mason born 1908 after she divorced she re married to an Arthur Morris. I have her descendents etc But Irene seems to disappear off the radar so to speak

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 27 Aug 2019 11:06

It would have been the mother's decision while she was a child. To give an air of respectability, the mother would probably have used her Ex's surname.
When it comes down to it, a person can use whatever name they like as long as it isn't for illegal purposes.

Re-reading your post - are you trying to find her?

Which parent does your mother & aunt share? What else do you know about your aunt? Was she raised by her mother, extended family or adopted out? If her parents didn't marry each other later on, it's possible that she may have been adopted by her mother's legal husband if her mother married someone else

Ok I know irenes mother was originaly married to kent but divorced. Which surname would Irene have taken or would that have been mothers choice?

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 27 Aug 2019 10:52

The index lists all surnames shown on the birth certificate.

In this instance, the mother probably wasn't married to the father. He did, however, acknowledge paternity.

Had they been married to each other, there would only have been one entry - father's surname first + mother's maiden name.

NB - if we're discussing the birth reg of a living person, it may be best if you delete this thread once you've read replies.
