Is anybody familiar with Brent Lodge Wild Animal Hospital?

It is down the road to me and carries out some wonderful work, always busy.

Very sadly, the lovely Dennis Fenter, who originally founded the establishment, has died. I am not sure but I think it might have been this morning and I know he was around ninety.

I don't know of the animal hospital, but it's sad news when someone who does so much good work dies.

Just checked births and the only birth that comes up for that name was in the first quarter of 1930 so he would have been 90 next birthday. He also had an MBE.

I took a damaged badger there once. The animal recovered.
Dennis created an oasis for wild creatures in need of help and his work was recognised with an MBE.
From small beginnings and more love than know how the Brent Lodge is now a professional and effective wild life vets.

I have not been down there in a long time now. I have not ha any need to but I do do some of the money raising things.

Just like to say, if you find an injured Badger, the last thing you should do is try to put it into your car!
Advice from 'Help Wildlife':
* Always approach a possibly injured badger with great caution and do not attempt to touch it.

* If you have found a badger in need of help you must seek assistance from an experienced wildlife rescue. Do not attempt to capture the animal yourself.

* Mark where the badger was found, so it can be re-released back near it's sett.

I went out and picked up a heron for him once and they are pretty dangerous, great long neck with that bill on the end to stab you in the eye if you are not careful.

He let me watch while he amputated its wing but, sadly, it died.

Ooo-err. Our cat once brought home a Great Northern Diver, when we lived in Lossiemouth.
I say 'brought' - she probably dragged it, and it was probably injured before she grabbed it.
Dad tried to save it, but failed. (not many rescue teams in 1962)
