I understand you problem with "sharing the burden" Liz. We had M-in-L living with us for about 18 months, without a lot of help from B-in-L. Lots of promises though, and of course, criticism. Keep smiling. Bob

I am sure it is, Bob, it sounds idyllic.

I have been looking at properties that might be better for o.h., ie bungalows or room for a downstairs bedroom etc and more privacy. This culdesac was perfect when he moved in with his wife and kids as everyone was in the same boat but many have moved on now and it's a different vibe completely.

We are close to the airport so it's noisy, the field at the end of the garden is for sale as a housing site, and a recently built new bypass/ road gives a constant thrum of traffic. That road is probably being extended over the next years further increasing traffic noise across more of the outskirts of the city.

It's hard to locate an area of peace and quiet unless we move to the sticks which we don't want to do, or the coast. I would love to live near the sea but as o.h.'s probable dementia and mobility problems get worse I would be stuck especially if I became unable to drive. Everything would fall on my son as o.h.'s son would then be 100 miles away.

I contacted him recently about the problems with his father, he has offered to visit the weekend of 24th Auugust! I daren't text back, it would be something like 'So soon?
Talk about out of sight, out of mind!

Yes, sorry, council tax. I am still using £.s.d, and refer to the radio as the wireless. However, it is worth it for the kingfisher, hedgehogs, egrets etc., and the pub being at the end of the road.

Last night, sitting by my river bank with a glass of red wine, four sightings of a kingfisher, and just as it was getting dark a hedgehog wandered in to my garden. Things can't get any better.

Thanks for all your good wishes. I never in a million years thought that I would own such a large garden AND over 50 feet of river bank. Two egrets in the river yesterday, (it is full of small fish), woodpeckers, kites, buzzards, plus all the usual birds. And the pub is only a couple of minutes away. Grandson has spent the last couple of days strimming and mowing and generally helping out. I have several large mature trees, a silver birch, cherry, weeping willow, sycamore, small leafed maple and a conifer. What have I let myself in for?

Well, we have made it at last. Our buyers solicitor messed us about until the very last minute, and didn't release the money until the very last minute. We were eventually able to pick up the keys to our new place five minutes before the deadline. It has been the most frustrating day of our lives. Still, we are in now, and now the work begins.

It will take awhile ZZzzz, he won't buy more :-D

Emma, how long will it take him to realise that they have gone? And will he go out and buy more?
