Do you still have a computer that runs Windows XP? Microsoft officially stopped supporting Windows XP five years ago, but it released a new patch for it this week after it discovered a potentially dangerous bug that could be as devastating as the WannaCry ransomware. An estimated tens of millions of devices still run Windows XP and the vulnerability could be exploited by a worm.

Microsoft never stopped issuing patches for serious XP security bugs.
So long as autoupdate is enabled and the machine online security will be maintained.

Large organisations such as the NHS have the option of downloading a patch file and running it themselves from a central server. If they don't then bad things can happen ...

Home users should def not be running XP. It is easy enough to get hold of a legit version of Windows 7 for around £ 30.

Windows 10 will ron on anything made in the last 10 years and a lot machines in the 5 years before that. It is much les demanding of memory and CPU time than Win7 so (use 32bit) is worth a try on older boxes even though this is not intuitive.
