is there no end in sight for you, Margaret?

The TV forecaster (Global) said last night that it looks as though we'll have this arctic outflow and front around BC until probably the beginning of march .... that's very unusual for us.

Climate change!

Caroline

Caroline Report 20 Feb 2019 22:04

Margaret you have got it bad, our snow banks aren't that high yet....mind you they haven't plowed all the time either!
So far today only flurries but freezing rain due any minute now.....then plus 3 by morning....basically we're having weather tonight :-D

Keep inside and warm Margaret.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 21 Feb 2019 00:55

Today has been nice and sunny, clear blue sky, about +5C ....... but clear sky means the temperature is going to drop tonight to around -6C

Same is forecast for tomorrow, at least until late afternoon/early evening when ................... no prizes for guessing

clouding over followed by rain and/or sleet and/or wet snow and/or 4-5 cm snow by Friday.

Caroline

Caroline Report 21 Feb 2019 01:09

We'll be moaning when it's hot :-D

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 21 Feb 2019 03:41

SylviaInCanada Report 22 Feb 2019 17:46

All I can see out of the window is snow, and it is sticking

Caroline

Caroline Report 22 Feb 2019 22:00

You've had a winter haven't you for sure.

Over this weekend we're having some freezing rain then hot (8) and windy 100km....watch this space....

SylviaInCanada Report 24 Feb 2019 21:35

Being in the Banana Belt of Canada, we're used to snow only being on the ground for a few days, and then quickly melting.

There have been times over the last 50+ years that we've lived here, when we've had big dumps and the temperature has stayed cold for 2 or 3 weeks, but that's been in December and early January.

I was amazed when we were out and about yesterday to how much snow from 2 weeks ago is still around, several cms deep.

Our front garden faces north, gets little sun, so not too surprising ......... but almost every side street we passed still had snow on the boulevards and lawns, hardly any green showing through.

Roads and sidewalks were clear of course.

There was a dirty grey pile of snow at one end of the mall parking lot that was still about 4' high by 5' long .............. and that wouldn't have been the only pile because it's a big lot on 3 sides of the mall.

We've had several sunny days ...... it's sunny with blue sky and high white clouds right now ............ but the temperatures have been hovering only about 2-3C each side of 0C, that's 7 or 8C below normal.

Poor little snowdrops look really unhappy!

SylviaInCanada Report 25 Feb 2019 05:31

Caroline and Margaret .............

were either of you affected by the horrendous winds today?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 25 Feb 2019 11:52

Not too bad here in Eastern Ontario, Sylvia. Still windy here at 6:50 am but no damage that I can see and we didn't lose power. (Touch wood)

Caroline

Caroline Report 25 Feb 2019 12:16

It's been windy but nowhere near as bad as they predicted thank goodness. A few branches down nothing much, even a lot less snow and freezing pellets...I'm sure some areas had it bad though. Yesterday they were showing ice being blown onshore from Lake Erie

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 25 Feb 2019 18:07

Our TV news showed that ice being blown on shore, and trees blown down all over the place.

We're supposed to have high winds today, but they seem to be all around where I live, not actually "here".

Caroline

Caroline Report 26 Feb 2019 01:43

You're in the eye of the storm nice and calm :-)

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 26 Feb 2019 03:07

It's funny (strange) ............. the area where I live has escaped the worst of the several snow falls in the last week. We've got ca 1-2cm each time, when elsewhere has got 5-10 cm.

Twice now, we've missed the high winds.

That was one horrendous crash near Barrie :-0

Kay????

Kay???? Report 26 Feb 2019 15:11

Most of England is basking in hot sun again ,,,greenhouse door and window is wide open,,,,,,and its still in the 80s,,,,,its so unreal for Feb,yesterday was also hot enough to catch the sun for a first blast of a tan...today my arms have tell tale marks...the mowers are sounding all over round here...….not a breath of wind and ants have made their presence and the odd bumble bee......even the frogs are croaking in the pond a month or so early.

its not normal for this time of the year though,,plants will be so confused if it turns to a cold snap.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 26 Feb 2019 15:56

Oh, how I'm longing for that kind of weather, Kay! Just to hear the frogs croaking again. Heaven!
It's minus 14c here now with wind chill making it feel like minus 24. Still a few feet of snow on the ground with more forecast this week. Beautiful sunny day but so cold!

Kay????

Kay???? Report 26 Feb 2019 16:48

To be honest Margaret I had hoped for some snow firstly to do its work on the allotment soil and knock back any bacteria but spring green have active white fly that hasn't stopped in its tracks,,,,the green wont have much flavour plus will get mildew if it don't turn cold or at least get a few days of hard frost.

poor you.
