At times I have been known to be childish and stupid, waffling on too much and of being too serious. I am guilty of all three. |

Dermot, the book to which you refer is hilarious. BUT..it is written tongue in cheek, by an author who loves the French. As do I. If I could afford it I would buy a holiday home there. |

Rollo, I think you'll find the nobility of Britain spoke mainly their own languages, with Anglo-Norman as a second language. |

The weak grasp of the English on their own history is sad and dangerous, for the English, quite funny for everybody else. |

Dermot posted how pleased he was with his prezzie of 1001 ways to annoy the French. The most annoying thing about the French is that they simply don't care. |

The "British" Dermot were invented by mid C19 Victorians who needed to jusitfy the shedding of Scots blood in futile wars such as Crimea while stealing their land in order to have more space for grouse shooting. The only people in Ireland who call themselves British love the sash their fathers wore. Although Scottish they refer to the majority as Fenians at best or T----s for preference. |
