Allan HAD pre-booked, and as there was a specially occasion looming he also invited a myriad of his international friends and colleagues

There was an Englishman, Scotsman, Welshman (you can see where this is leading) Irishman, Frenchman, an American, African, South Korean, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Chinaman, a whole plethora of nationalities.

There was, however, one missing which the door man was quick to spot.

"Sorry," he said to Allan, "You can't come in without a Thai"

The loud rumbling in Allan's stomach brought him back to reality...dreaming of all that food had indeed made him hungry....should he learn from Carson who surely wouldn't allow any samples to be eaten or should he continue to the restaurant??

Allan decided to continue to the restaurant...but hold on...what's this notice at the door...reservations only....Oh No....had they booked...did their masks match their outfits......would there be dainty sandwiches or a good hearty meal so near and yet so far.......

....dream of dainty sandwiches and pretty, tasty cakes

...in all the essentials of the quintessential English cup of tea such as loose tea leaves, milk, sugar, boiling water (indeed, there was a distinct absence of water of any kind), teapot and teacups.

Allan's OH could only dream

As Allan was a selfish Butler, OH suggested he go and learn a few tricks from Carson. OH was fully aware that her morning cuppa was sadly lacking..........

Well Allan was eagerly anticipating the meal but his OH my have been having second thoughts - considering her history.

Where he had heard this nugget of information is anyone's guess.
Could it be from Marvin?

Regardless, they set off together in search of an eagerly anticipated meal.

Allan told his wife that he had heard that a highly recommended restaurant was somewhere in the vicinity.

They were, of course, on the planet at the end of the universe.

Who, who! What are you going on about, demanded Allan. Are you an owl or are you waiting for the rest of the Trumpton crew?

Hastily thumbing through his 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' Allan still couldn't quite place where he was.

Unlike most males, Allan was not afraid to ask for directions. Unfortunately for he and his wife the first person to appear was an android called Marvin

It had often been said that Allan lived on another planet and now it was true. The hole had taken them to......

A parallel one; the mushrooms had just kicked in and Allan and his OH weren't actually in a lift, but had fallen down a rabbit hole, or, in these post Einstein times, even a wormhole.

Perhaps they were trying to go up the down staircase?

Well, they both knew which one they wanted - but it was taking a long time to get there.

Allan was at that moment in need of a lift having felt a bit down all day.

He probably would have felt the same way if he had been feeling a bit of lead, but life was too soft these days.

Besides, life was full of ups and downs; so pausing only to draw a deep breath, and a quick sketch of the surrounding countryside, Allan allowed the lift door to close.

Only then did he remember that line from the song 'Hotel California' 'This could be heaven, or this could be hell'

Too late..........

the little old man's wife, a little old lady, pulled back the gate of the lift, and Allan and his OH entered....................

...so the little old man opened the lift.
