Quite so Bob. I have set the timers. Bit of bluster on at 9pm in the living room. Then run upstairs to watch a bit of bodice at 10pm. If I fall asleep in the middle of the second, which I probably will, then I don't have to haul meself up the wooden hills. :-D :-D

Well Budd is a bit of a dark horse.Hes like a volcano simmering away! Have to say I found it very slow tonight until last 10 mins. Hope the next 3 episodes have more going on otherwise it will be a let down after the great start.
What does anyone else think after tonight.

The explosion was, well explosive! Someone is gunning for her.
I am presuming the bomb was in the case. Is it the bloke with dark, curly hair. He gave the case to her secretary. It was inspected by Budd, but we did not see what was in it. Or have I got that wrong?

I agree with Florence in that I found the 3rd episode slow after first two episodes :-(
I too was confused about the explosion, Maddie :-0. What was it that the bodyguards saw to make them run towards the platform? Was the bomb in the case or was it a suicide bomber? Did the Home Secretary survive?
Also, I don't know what it is that Home Secretary is so secretative about....is it to do with Prime Minister? Or have I missed something :-D
I'm just pleased that Amber Rudd is not still Home Secretary as I would be looking at her in a different light ;-) :-D :-D

We don’t think the bomb was in the briefcase which Tahir Mahmood was carrying, unless the briefcase was the bomb itself? He’d have run when challenged by Budd. How could a 3rd party have got the timing right so it would explode?
The Home Secretary seems be making a power play to unseat the Prime Minister. She changed her speech substituting (strong) something or other with Leadership. Could the secret document about sexual harassment be about the PM or was it someone else? What went on at the secret Chequers meeting, the country home of the PM?
Reading about the characters seems to suggest that the Secret Services are trying to cut the police out of the terrorist & bombing investigations. Is this an attempt to gain more authority? Will they become the power behind the Government?

Confusing isn't it? The more I am thinking about it, the more questions there are, than answers.
I think the best answer for me, is to watch it again, and see if I have missed anything.
It is typical of Jed Mercurio to have more than one theme running through the story, so maybe next episode will answer a few questions.
Was there a suicide bomber in the auditorium? Surely the security would have done body searches? They definitely saw something as they all rushed towards the stage.
Going for a lie down now. :-D

Florence - apologies for wittering about Vanity Fair on your Bodyguard thread - but someone else said it first. I also seem to have wittered on a bit - more apologies. Its nice to have a discussion with like minded people.
We are a funny group I thought the 3rd episode was a lot more gripping than the other 2. More to think about and i enjoyed the explosion - watched it 3 times.
I knew that Curly haired chap was up to something and the bomb had to be the briefcase as the other chap handled it very carefully. at all times and was hesitant about opening the case. It was probably one of those with a double lock. Open one way and its a case - press the other side and it goes off. Why did he make his way to the wings when she was already giving her speech.
The police protection girl knew that Budd was on edge and suddenly saw that secretary chap standing in the wings and move closer to the stage. She ran and Budd joined her.
I still think that Police chap who interviewed Budd and found the car will drag Budd in again and he will get all the blame.
His children's school - so they were after him. His amy friend was the roof shooter (so he could have given out the route) He saw the secretary guy and didn't hold him back,( so he must have been in on it.) He didn't get badly injured - so he knew where it was going off. If they search his room they will find the recording/listening gear & you can tell his boss wont back him.
Poor bloke does not have a lot going for him does he (I still dont like him)
I could be very wrong and probably will be - but I am sure that Gina McKee and the older minister chap with Glasses (the Terrorism one) who is always in on the meetings and spying on her with the security service are behind all this somewhere, This also includes the parliamentary whip as the old boy with glasses was talking to him too ( the chief whip chap Nicholas Gleaves always plays those sort of parts - never liked him in any of the shows always has a bit of a chip on his shoulder)
It will be interesting to see what happens next week.

Tabitha no apology needed. It wasn't about other dramas it was talking about watching programmes on other devices and the quality that was being discussed etc which wasn't relevant but hey ho nevermind.
As we all watch lots of dramas, we always will compare and discuss them and I don't have a problem with that. Different views etc make interesting reading and conversation.
I too think that Budd will get reinterviewed. He was nervous and twitching his hands under the table when being questioned. Hes not stable and quite a nervous wreck. I too think that the briefcase had another compartment maybe where the bomb was. But why did the fair haired copper give the briefcase to the dark haired one? It looked like there was a change of plan last minute?
Think I should watch it again as someone said, there was a lot going on and much to digest.
Now I think ,that the next 2 episodes will unfold and hopefully the last one will be really explosive...we shall see.

Thank you Florence - better to apologise it never hurts.
Yes i thought the secret email was about Budd too - he certainly has some PTSD to deal with. He is a bit of a fool to himself meeting up with that Army chap.
Her curly haired assistant was a bit of a creep. To be truthful i wouldn't trust any of them including Pippa Hayward and i like her. BBC casting seem to have found the most untrustworthy looking people for the main parts, so they can throw a few spanners in the works. Very much like Line of Duty.
It seems the Bodyguard writer is already planning a 2nd series as the viewing figures are over 6 million each episode & BBC love it as ITV only pulled in 2 million on Sunday.

Just watched the first two episodes and off to make a coffee before the third starts so I thought I'd join this thread now.
Enjoying the storyline so far but the two things that 'were a bit off' in my opinion were the fact that in Episode 1 his nails were buffed almost to the point that it looked as though he had nail varnish on. It's not that he would not have clean, neat buffed nails but the fact that they were too well polished.
In Episode 2 I thought he'd gone for glory rather than stay and guard the woman he was supposed to be guarding until she was in an absolute safe environment and not left in the back of a car for someone else to guard her. I thought he'd get a huge rollicking for that.
Anyone think he was suffering from PTSD but hiding it extremely well?
Back later.

Just flicked through Episode 1 again. Easy to see how it's shot out of sequence. The buffed nails appear when he's loading his gun near the end but his nails are not like that previously. I'm guessing he turned up freshly groomed for his first day.
A minor thing really, certainly didn't spoil my enjoyment.
Again, however, now I've watched Episode 3, he's left his charge vulnerable when he's gone out of the auditorium chasing a shadow instead of relaying that info to one of the others. Will he get a rollicking this time?
Off on a tangent here, but has anyone noticed how much one of David Beckham's boys looks like him? The oldest one, I think. Not sure whether he's called Brooklyn.

I thought it had been established that David was suffering from PTSD, but wasn't sure who the dossier was on that Lavendar had on that laptop.
Still not sure who caused the explosion, and still not sure what side that David is on.
As for the relationship between David and Lavender, not clear who is using who.
Roll on Sunday.
