Edit Oh dear it's just us poor plebs and our wind up computers.......you know what happens when you assume things......

Don't sweat the small stuff :-)

Yes, I know I do it all the time, but when you think about it, however frustrating the slowness of loading, or the error messages, or whether it's their fault, my fault, or to do with the full moon...aren't we lucky to be able to press keys and have so much knowledge at our fingertips ( for so little effort and money, relatively speaking). I used to think when i was a kid how great it would be to have a central library where you could go to find almost any piece of info on any subject ...and then someone invented the internet lol. :-)

We're not in the path of a hurricane, or ( probably) a bomb, not starving in a war zone...and we have some sun, some rain, some plants, some company, and someone to argue (oops... 'debate' ) with when we feel like it.

Is Caroline's reduction in posts down to the tremendous success of Brexit, poor choice of ISP or failure to pay her connexion?

You can't always get what you want

You get what you need

ps for Ken: I have a high number of threads and no problems these days with GR. I also shell out for a decent connection on both phone and computers. Those who rely on Yorkshire Tea and its ilk only have themselves to blame. Same for the millions with out of date / poorly sited / poorly configured routers (i am not a modem).

tsk

Kense

Kense Report 10 Sep 2017 13:13

I have not had a problem logging on or accessing threads. Those posting on this thread who have not had such a problem all have comparatively low posting totals.

The slow emoticon generation and slow avatar information display seem to be ongoing but the thread access problem appears to hsve been fixed to some extent.

"Unfortunately Australia is proof that it ain't necessarily so."
"I did not say which educational system "

Strong inference then !!!

If for instance, it's my fault, not Genes how come EVERY other site I've been on has had no problems AND Genes have admitted to me and others it's their fault.......

Sits back waits for usual insult....

Generalising from a single case is a good example of a lack of elementary logic. Failure to also examine cause and effect just takes one further up the garden path.

Of course this type of poor reasoning is popular with the red top press and politicians of all stripes.

A leading exponent is T May with her "hostile environment" for foreigners and British overseas citizens which threatens to sink the economy all together.

Cry the beloved country.

Well, if Kense with his 4750ish posts is affected by slow loading, it goes to prove it's not just limited to those with 10k+ to their names.

I did not say which educational system though it is true enough that there is not much to choose between the various Ango Saxon state systems ages 4-18. A few swallows don't make a summer.

All the same a country which elects the likes of Malcolm Turnbull as PM has for sure lost its grip.

Yes, I know, Trump, May nada nada ... but it is only the diminutive population of Oz which holds MT back from greater notoriety.

maggiewinchester - re the query about information under the avatars. Yes I noticed that it was reluctant to display on Friday and the same is still true today.

It does come up after a few seconds (about 10) but disappears when I go to another page, and I have to wait again.

Edit: Once it has displayed one person's information on a page the others on the page are accessed normally.

Obviously, then, I failed to survive the Education System, which, incidentally, took place in the UK :-(

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 10 Sep 2017 10:34

basic logic should be elementary to anybody who has survived the education system. Unfortunately Australia is proof that it ain't necessarily so.

Allan

Allan Report 10 Sep 2017 10:12

It may be elementary to yourself, Rollo, but I was also experiencing problems, so it seems that the problem was widespread.

No doubt, in Oz, the finger could be pointed at the current roll-out of the NBN

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 10 Sep 2017 08:31

if the gr server has a problem then everybody will notice it; at one time a frequent happening now much less so

if only some of the clients have a connection problem then the problem lies either with the client or with the network segment the isp has connected them to

lol, Maggie,

It's a pity the temp position was only for two weeks :-D :-D :-D

maggiewinchester Report 9 Sep 2017 23:46

...you probably didn't do 'those things' in the right nerdy order, LaGooner :-D :-D :-D

It's amazing how much problems with the internet are blamed on the users - IT nerds hate admitting they're cr*p at their job!!

I do temp work - and have been employed as a temp 7 times by the Council - true by different departments, but it's amazing how often they say 'I' haven't done something - assuming I'm new to the job. I point out I have done x y or z - but if they don't press the right button, it won't work!!

My current 'connecting to the system' was hilarious - I'm now 'myname6@a council' - and they can't work out if I'm 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. I point out I'm all of them, but it's probably more logical to use the highest number, as that's more likely to be the latest.!!
I was connected after three weeks.......
