Although not the most interesting episode that I've seen, I still enjoyed it.

I've never felt particularly drawn to Craig but having seen this programme I have now warmed to him.

His 100 year old Granny was lovely! :-)

I really enjoyed it and I thought Craig visibly relaxed 'back home' and even looked younger. Maybe in the genes given his grandmother did not look 100 :-D

I actually quite enjoyed it and I didn't think I would.

Eyes nearly popped out when it said on the electral roll that his parents lived in Keith Road Hayes I know that road very well had a school friend that lived down there but they did not show any pictures of the house their not that bad?? good start to the series

that's too true 'Emma'.

They should get in touch with some of us on GR , I am pretty sure we could give the celebrities a run for their money when it comes to stories about our ancestors .

It always amazes me when the people like Charles Dance
say they have always wanted to find out about this parent
or that grandmother etc.
So why haven't they looked into it sooner than when they are
on WDYTYA, it's not that they can't afford it.

Forgot about the new series will have to do a catch up on Charles Dance .

Can't say I am overly keen on Lulu though, every time I see her on some television programme she goes from speaking with a scottish accent then English and finally american , where is she actually from ?

Don't answer that I know .

I liked the Charles Dance episode - left a few loose ends.

Didn't like the new narrator though - he could have just been reading his shopping list for all he cared.

That was the only down side to the new series.

Found this programme interesting and good start to
the series.

Oh to be fortunate enough to have a case of photo
albums and an autobiography etc to sift through.

Right, just looked at this part of the programme again and Nonie/Nonien was Norah's granddaughter - mentioned in Norah's Will. No mention of son or daughter at all.

This would mean that Nonie was the great-niece of Charles so it was right that her son's were great great nephews.

Wonder what happened to the missing generation?

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 7 Jul 2017 12:16

Sorry folks, it wasn't Keith but it was JoyLouise. I forgot to check whose site I was on. :-D

Keith

Keith Report 7 Jul 2017 11:58

I recall that Norah (his half-sister) was born in 1898 and died in 1993 so it is a bit of a shame that no search was done before she died.

I thought the lady he met was Nonie, Norah's daughter, but as I taped it I am going to take another look.

It would make much more sense, but that is the terminology in the UK!

For example your 2x Great Grandfather's brother would be your 3x Great Uncle.

I agree it would make it much easier the other way as in some other countries. :-)
Are you living abroad now Nottsgirl? Possibly your tree programme is for American Residents?

Nottsgirl

Nottsgirl Report 7 Jul 2017 11:37

Well that makes no sense to me, should not grandparents siblings be grand uncles and Aunts and great grand parent's siblings be great uncles and Aunts if what you say is right should we not be grand Aunts and uncles to our siblings children's and not uncles and Aunts.

On my tree programme that I have on my computer when I use the relationship calculator it says my grandmother's sister is my grandaunt.

The programme I use is from who do you think you are.

Vera is quite right.

NORAH DANCE..................................... 1/2 siblings ...................CHARLES DANCE

CHILD of NORAH
(not named in the programme).............................. Niece/ Nephew of Charles Dance
..................................................................................(1st Cousin to Charles' children)

NONIE
(Granddaughter of Norah) ........................ Great Niece (UK terminology) to Charles
....................................................................(Possibly called Grand Niece abroad)

NONIE's SONS ............................................. Great Great Nephews to Charles (UK)
......................................................... (Possibly called Great Grand Nephews abroad)

Nottsgirl

Nottsgirl Report 7 Jul 2017 10:58

Norah's grand daughter was Charles Grand niece making her sons his great nephews.

For some reason the grand turns into great when it comes to niece's and nephew's

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 7 Jul 2017 02:14

I thought the girl who told him about Nonie (was that her name?) said she was sister Norah's granddaughter and Charles Dance's great niece so her sons would be his 2 x great nephews.

I too noticed the other Dance names on the electoral roll. One of them was a Lilian so I thought they were going to produce another half sister for him. I thought it strange they didn't at least comment on them but I suppose they have time constraints.
