RESULTS OF TODAY'S SUMMER TOUR TEST GAMES

Test Game 1

TONGA 6 ~ WALES 24 <3

I recorded the Wales game and watched it this afternoon.
It may have been the B Team, with no less than 9 previously Uncapped Players, but it was a cracker of a game!

Wales' Captain today was former First Choice Centre (12) - JAMIE ROBERTS - who led his team from the front, and was on fine form in partnership with Scarlet SCOTT WILLIAMS (13)

Wales' defence against the huge Tongan Team was immense!

For me, the player who shined the most in this Wales side was New Zealand born GARETH ANSCOMBE who was at Full Back (15)
He was phenomenal today. He was everywhere! breaking, kick chase, defending, etc.
If The Lions Powers That Be need to replace some injured backs, I would not be surprised if Gareth will be one of them.


Right Winger ALEX CUTHBERT (14) got the first TRY for Wales. It was "third time lucky" as he'd already had two earlier Tries go to the TMO.
He was very unfortunate with the first one, as the ball was grounded at the exact same time as his elbow just touched the line.
The second time, he was tackled and he lost control of the ball, so that the grounding was not a firm controlled one and so was deemed a knock on.

The Second Try for Wales was following an amazing drive over the line.
An infringement by Tonga resulted in the referee deciding on a PENALTY TRY AWARD


Young SAM DAVIES at Fly Half (10) was not his usual self when it came to goal kicking and missed 3 Conversions. But he did have some big moments of intelligent play.

New Cap at 4- SEB DAVIES did very well in Alun-Wyn Jones' position. He started and was still there at the end of the game.

What was lovely was that Wales' Stand-In Head Coach - ROBBIE McBRYDE- gave all the youngsters their first taste of playing for Wales Seniors before the end of the game. They must have been so proud! :-)
