Actually I was more for Netball than hockey, and seeing as I studied the Scottish play many many decades ago I'll not apologies.....since then I've read goodness knows how many thousands of different books/plays/poems.

Scotland is taking nothing to the EU......they intend to take that's all......even the EU will wake up to the fact they can't keep taking on leeches when one of their biggest blood donors is leaving. Germany can only pay for so many failed countries.

the line of denigrating Scotland aka project fear 2 has little chance of success. "Better together" will fall on deaf ears

Spain has limited room to object as its financial sector is on life support backed up by the Germans via the EU. It has no general objection to small states as new members eg the Balts, Slovenia, Croatia. It is def going to want its pound of flesh re Gib.

Obviously some people played hookey at school when English Lit got around to the Scottish play.

Scotland is just like Quebec they will keep sulking until they get what they want but what they want is everything and then some.
They want to be on their own with money coming from the Uk and the EU.Without this they have nothing ...okay to be fair they have something but not enough so they'd have to make big cut backs...but they don't want that either.

Caroline

Caroline Report 13 Mar 2017 15:35

Of course Spain amongst others will still object.....why would this not open flood gates

The position of the EU re membership for Scotland post brexit is utterly different to the status quo. Spain's objection would no longer stand as the former UK would no longer be a member state.

Sturgeon would have to get her timing right soon after the brexit but before the gt repeal act.

If May had any sense she would stay in the customs union and single market while withdrawing from the EU political structure. That would be fine with the 70% and May could get on with running the country instead of running it over the cliff.

Which other than being Scottish has what to do with Brexit.......

Is Rollo honestly saying there will be a civil war if Scotland isn't allowed to separate?

Separate please do....but don't expect the EU to support you nor the rest of the remaining UK....so how will they survive....

And yes I have plenty of Scots blood in me.

Don't worry Great Birnam Wood to Dunsinane shall come.
There will be blood.

Caroline Report 13 Mar 2017 15:09

The main reason Scotland can not survive in the EU is that the EU will not allow it as they've stated many times before. To allow that will open the flood gate of all the little places in Europe that want to seperate too.

Excellent speech by SPM Sturgeon.

Now May can choose an opt in to Single Market and customs union while leaving the EU thus keeping the UK intact. Or she can follow her Primrose path to destruction which will prob force a massive u-turn anyway

The idea that the Scots couldn't row their own boat outside of the UK is mad Eire, Denmark for instance do just fine.

If May attempts to control the date or make other changes such as denying the 16-18 vote it will only enrage the Scots.

current polls have 50-50 vs 45-55 last time. Otoh it is difficult to see much in the brexit negs that might encourage the Scots to stay.

HMG should look at the upside. if the Scots leave that will be £ 5 bn off the divorce bill. It will also be £ 5 bn available for Scotland's people rather than funding May's divorce.

Businesses with heavy dependency on EU trade treaties won't take long to slide the rule over the Snps plans.
