They were voting to leave the EU not leave the UK as I stated before the two don't have to go hand in hand. The vote result goes with the majority end of, otherwise for instance when a union votes for strike action you'd have one factory going on strike and another not....you vote together you suck it up if you happen to not get the result you wanted....it's the same with the rest of the UK if you didn't want to leave hard luck.

Slovakia Average Monthly Wages 2000-2017 | Data | Chart | Calendar
Wages in Slovakia decreased to 1065 EUR/Month in December from 1166 EUR/Month in November of 2016. Wages in Slovakia averaged 709.03 EUR/Month from 2000 until 2016, reaching an all time high of 1166 EUR/Month in November of 2016 and a record low of 349 EUR/Month in February of 2000.

Go for it - crash and burn!

Allowing for the difference in the cost of living; lack of housing, medical care and adequate funding for schooling I wouldn't hold that country up as a beacon of hope.

Twaddle twaddle and yet more twaddle with no attempt to check or recognise facts.
Typical brexiters.

I have always been in favour of the Union as both countries have done very well out of it regardless of its murkey beginnings. For such a union to work it must be based on mutual respect without the most populous members bulldozing the rest ie tyranny of the majority. That is why the USA, Oz and Canada have held together while the USSR and Yugoslavia fell apart.

That respect is not there in May's autocratic interior ministry idea of government. Indeed it is not there even for the 48% or foreign born spouses and parents of British citizens.

Thus the Scots are faced with an inviduous choice.

I have always detested Alex Salmond who I see as a Scots version of Farage. Sturgeon is a consumate politician who has destroyed the Labour Party and is far beyond Mayhem's ken. Politics is what politicians do it is no use May complaining when she is outfoxed.

Soon enough the second rate and very ill prepared UK team will be up against the razor sharp M Barnier and crew. UK hasn't a prayer. Having Sturgeon stirring things up will add to the fun say leading EU spokesmen. So by 2019 London - Edinburgh relations could be very rancerous.

My Ggf was a Scottish soldier for 30 years, a modern rellie has recently retired from Dundee Uni while an ex owner of 6 Charlotte Sq Edinburgh is in my family tree. However my point of view is English and my only regret last Saturday was that England did not manage a final try. that said I love Scotland and will be very sad to see the Union broken by a bunch of fascists.

What makes you believe that the far right are not in control of the UK?
Brexit is the final step.

The brexit project is insane in economic terms and only stacks up as a political project which will turn the country into a a fascist state similar to Turkey. hence the rejection of the CU and SM. leave said that remain allegations that brexit would take the UK out of the SM were a wicked lie, part of project fear.
Typical modus operandi of fascists.
Sauve qui peut.

Supercrutch is advised to tone down her comments about my Oh who is only in the UK to look after my ancient parent. If not her comments on this thread will be referred.

really?
"clear off to France" for instance?
please take this as a final warning any more of this and any posts you make to my threads will be referred.

I obviously do not agree with Caroline but I cannot recall any time where she has resorted to personal abuse. Please not.

Right winger Marine Le Pen if she wins the French Presidential elections
she is planning I believe a referendum to take her country out of the EU and if France
votes to quit it would come down like a pack of cards.

Caroline Report 14 Mar 2017 13:53

I didn't need to check my facts I was 99.9% sure I was right about the wages not being better or even equal...but hey if people in Scotland can live on really low wages go for it.

I beat you Rollo in that my father was Scottish so it's really in my blood.

Respect works both ways Rollo there are many Scots who hold no respect for the English whatsoever.

Before the Brexit vote and straight after I believe all the financial news was doom and gloom...and yet the markets did what exactly ?????

That's true Caroline and visa versa.

Edit...your remarks on some Scots hating the English.

The French presidential election is in two rounds with the top two facing off in the second round. The favorite, Fillon, has fallen away dogged by financial scandals. It is said ( and not denied) that le Canard Enchaînée was given the info by the Sarkozy camp. Just recently it has been revealed that Fillon has also enjoyed an undeclared clothes allowance of € 10 000 pa. That has been the final nail for many who will now vote for le Pen. Ironic as le Pen is facing embezzlement charges re € 300 000 from the EU. She has been stripped of immunity by French courts.

Anyway Fillon's latest fall has given le Pen a slender 1st round lead over the centre left favorite, Macron. 2nd round is expected to go in favor of Macron and En Marche 70-30%. so no joy there for EU sceptics.

Macron is very hard line on brexit and has stated that he is against the kind of sectoral deals that May is hoping for. It may be worth noting that Renault are Nissan's biggest shareholder.

Some of us did suffer financially after brexit. :-(

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 14 Mar 2017 15:15

Markets don't do economics they do time sensitive trades often on margin.
The idea that the Ftse100 is some kind of barometer of the UK economy is flat wrong.

Robert

Robert Report 14 Mar 2017 15:21

1. Rollo, get well soon.

2. Why shouldn't we, the Scots living in other parts of the UK, have a vote on independence?
Let's take it a step further. Why shouldn't the rest of the UK have a vote on Scottish independence?

Caroline

Caroline Report 14 Mar 2017 15:24

I didn't say it was Rollo, I said some were saying if the vote went for exit then it was all doom and gloom, just like you're saying now....we've discussed this before on previous threads maybe it will maybe it won't we can't tell what tomorrow will bring....but so far it's been okay. Obviously some may have lost out so far as Von seems to have done, but others may not.

Emma yes I agree as I said it's a two way thing.

Caroline

Caroline Report 14 Mar 2017 15:26

Robert totally agree let everyone vote whether they want Scotland to stay part of the union or not, and again the majority wins....the problem being IF it said they should stay would Scotland then just say it's not fair there were more votes cast in England as there are more voters ?

Robert

Robert Report 14 Mar 2017 15:34

There are probably as many Scots living in the rest of the UK as live in Scotland.

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 14 Mar 2017 15:38

So far as any polling was done of those living in Berwick and points south it suggested a 70% majority in favour of leaving the Scots to their own devices so long as defence and whiskey imports were not threatened.

The problem of giving ex pat Scots a vote is working out who they are. A Scottish name is obviously not enough otherwise Brave Dave and even myself would be able to vote. birthplace then? Too bad if it was Berwick or Carlisle. Résidence is the only way.

My health is OK but I have a procedure due when I can find time.
Thank you for your concern.

You're probably right Robert, doesn't mean IF the vote went against Scotland they would say that.....there's always an excuse...
