I saw The Chase I think . There were three options and the contestant chose that a char woman was another word for a 'cook' as she was looking for a 'tea woman' and that didn't come up. I was surprised again that someone didn't know, so agree it must be an age thing.

I watched that Coming Home episode last nightand enjoyed it but I felt it could have been deeper.

Did anyone see the episode of either The Chase or Tipping Point earlier this week when the young woman contestant also did not know what a charwoman was? She looked slightly older than Cheryl so perhaps it was an age thing. :-S

Hi Emms and Everyone :-) :-) <3

I have been enjoying this series too.

I didn't expect to enjoy the Danny Dyer one, but in fact it was very good.
I have found them all interesting in their own way.

Have any of you ever seen "Coming Home", which is very similar?
Last Wednesday's episode saw Ioan Gruffudd (Hornblower) coming home to Wales to trace his family tree.
It was very good.

I have posted a thread about it, with a link to the programme on the BBC iPLAYER, if you missed it.

It became more 'watchable' once he'd stopped the guffouring (sp) laughter.

Over all it was an interesting programme about social history. I found it slightly irritating how he assumed or hoped that his ancestors had been early Trade Unionists. The researcher tried to explain that there was no records = no certainty, but he still held fast.

Why do so many of these 'celebraties' take it personally when they discover the conditons their ancestors lived in? Why do they assume they were all wonderful people?

Although Ricky Tomlinson's WDYTYA was not the best I've seen, I now look past his swearing to see and admire the man who donated £1 million to a children's charity.

I enjoyed this one. I thought his feelings seemed genuine whereas some others seem to be putting on a bit of an act. Also I thought it was a better indication of how to go about family research. Some programmes seem to get their facts from sources that are not easily available to the amateur researcher but this was mainly bmd certs, newspaper archives, admission logs etc. that we can all access.

PS I wish my iPad wouldn't "correct" my spelling. Previewed the post to check and found bmd certs had turned into bad certain.

I really enjoyed last nights programme.

Not one of my favourites but his passion and enthusiasm
in discovering his ancestors lives and the tears he shed
for the loss of the child, which he could not understand,
moved me.
We have all been there, well I have, his pride in their working
spirit was very much to the front of his belief and showed.

Should be good tonight (I hope)

I liked Cheryl's accent but didn't know she was so dopey, not knowing what a Char was & her from a working class background.

Nudge for tonight

Ricky Tomlinson

I found her boring too, Shirley.

She did not appear to be the brightest button in the box, I'm afraid.

What is it that women think they have to talk with a low, husky voice now? It sounds so false in the light of what we've all heard about them and it's almost as bad as those grown women who speak with the tinkling voice of a little girl. :-S

I blame M and S of course, trying to make food sexy!

Ricky Tomlinson is one I'm looking forward to.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

I found her boring . She showed very little animation and the constant exclamations of wow and amazing was irritating

:-(

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 16 Dec 2016 20:07

I missed the bit about the char because I kept dozing off. Every time I woke up she was either saying Wow or Amazing.

When it looked as though she had cut her hair it was just tied back at the nape.
