I used to enjoy reading, but have to admit, going to University put me off, to a degree.

I love reading too Allan but it has to be the book not electronic.

Although I didn't study Eng. Lit as an O level subject we did have set books as part of the English language curriculum, as well as studying Shakespeare.

Our set books were ones like 'The Call of the Wild', King Solomon's Mines' and the like. I suppose that I attended an all boys' school we did not have the distraction of girls to contend with, although our hormones, as well as humour still went through their normal processes :-D :-D

Plus, I've always enjoyed reading. It really doesn't matter what the subject or genre is, I find that books tend to fire my imagination, and as my imagination is a raging furnace I dread to think what might have happened if I got stuck in the pornographic phase of my literary diet :-D :-D

I failed English Lit. because I (a) didn't understand 'The History of Mr Polly' and
(b) didn't find an attempted suicide humerous!
Had we had the 'other' book - 'Lord of the Flies'. which I read the year before my 'O' levels, I would have passed, as understood THAT book perfectly.

I know, we talk about going back to the places we knew when much younger but realise that we are thinking of nearly forty years ago. I remember the various changes whilst we were living in the UK so would not recognise them now.

Old houses that I lived in have been demolished as has my old High School in Didsbury :-0

Don't worry Allan I revisited the greats...and found my English Lit teacher was hopeless as most of the stuff he presented to us was in fact quite good :-D :-D

Caroline, the weather has been appalling all day. Went back to do an afternoon shift and left with 24 buns and a pack of sausages, which I paid for, to help defray the costs :-(

Will find out soon what we made or lost on the day:-(

It has been a long day, but win or lose, the day has been worth it :-D
