well found this thread on page 5....

and it so happens I was looking through old emails, and came across this

not very Bland but food for thought,(I think)

HELL EXPLAINED BY A CHEMISTRY STUDENT.

The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry midterm. (allegedly)

The answer by one student was so 'profound' that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well :

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

"First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today.

Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.
This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, 'It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you,' and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct......leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting 'Oh my God.’ "

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED AN A+.

Aye, Caroline, there's the rub; I would certainly marry OH again, but would she marry me.

I've definitely changed over the years and not necessarily for the better :-(

Caroline

Caroline Report 16 Nov 2018 00:39

Allan...good question, must make most stop and think.

Wonder how many couples split up after it was asked....seeing all the possible faults in their relationships.....for the record I'd still be with my OH as he puts up with all my faults :-)

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 15 Nov 2018 23:17

Well, Allan, I embarked on a long term relationship 47 years ago.
The relationship, as it stood, lasted 13 years, but I have been friends with my ex since, so, apart from the 2 or 3 years just after the break up where we vented our anger, at the relationship breaking down, and re-adjusted our positions, we've been friends! :-D

Possibly a bit strange for his two subsequent wives, but he has no close family in this country, and was best mates with my late brother in law, so even when we split up, he was still a member of the extended family, and he (and whichever wife/girlfriend) is invited to our gatherings, 33 years after we divorced!

Has he changed? Yes, he's now a vegan - I can't be doing with that :-|
He's still bit 'competative' - when we were together, it was who could go to the dentist and have nothing done - we both managed that - and our children, and grandchildren don't have a filling between them :-D

Then (years after we divorced) I got a degree - so 'himself' got one - then he got funded to do an MA :-P
Not bad for a dyslexic (him, not me), though he does give me some credit - my attitude to his dyslexia. He knew the words, and their meanings - but not how to spell them. I could spell them, but didn't necessarily know what they meant, and showed him how to 'piece words together' to spell them - together is a good example - to get her - together.
It was a darned good example for our eldest too (also dyslexic), daddy knew words, mummy could spell them - no-one is perfect, and it's okay to ask :-D

Allan...…...ya big poser! :-0 :-D

Allan

Allan Report 15 Nov 2018 22:03

Now here is a poser;

When person A accuses person B of being judgemental, is not person A also being judgemental ?:-S

It's like my conversation stopper that I like to introduce late in the evening when the alcohol has been flowing and everyone is nice and cosy

The question is, if you met your OH/partner/significant other today for the very first time, would you still enter into a very long term relationship with that person?:-0

The reason I as this is that I have known OH for over fifty years and we've been married for forty eight years.

In that time we have both changed a great deal, but living side by side you don't notice the changes on a daily basis, but on looking back at old photos and videos the changes become quite apparent.

I usually vacate the room immediately after asking the question and enjoy the silence ;-) :-D :-D :-D
