I have to say that I was thinking of very young lives lost today in my family.

Dad was in the Navy for more than the war years and he came through intact, as did two of Mum's brothers in the Navy and RAF. One of her brothers lost his life in the Army. That was WW2.

In WW1 Grandad's brother was killed at the Battle of Jutland and two of his cousins killed in Belgium and France, and a great uncle killed in Mesopotamia.

Even in the mid-1880s as a result of war, a great uncle died.

We even had a relative killed as a result of enemy bombing in Essex.

What a terrible time for the families and for families everywhere. The most saddening thing is that it's still going on.

Had to go to the bank with hubby this morning - I posted earlier about the laugh we had on the way home.

Bet we're the first ones to see CHRISTMAS decorations in someone's house this year. I kid you not :-D

The young 'un's gone to footie training so bulked him up on carbs so he had plenty of energy to run off, it's cold, wet and windy out there.

Back home and lunch being zapped.

At 11 we were in the bank with a view across the Market Place. There were a lot of people standing but only a few ignored the silence - four young people who looked like students (Durham is full of students) two younger lads, one middle-aged man and, surprisingly, one elderly woman.

On another tack :-D :-D :-D

WOW WOW WOW. We're on our way home and saw the first house decorated for Christmas, tree in the window and other things. I started to giggle, hubby gave a wry smile and why, may you ask. It was one of his pal's house - he blamed the pal's wife :-S

It was Fly.

He had a very rough time out there being wounded twice...and no letters from his wife for many months. He contacted the Padre and asked him to find out what was happening at home because he was worried for his wife and son who was born weeks before he left for war.

It turned out the wife had moved from their home in Glasgow back to her birth place in Dundee...and whilst grandad was abroad had given birth to another mans baby :-(

Thinking about my grandad...how he survived all he went through to make it back home in October 1919. Five years away with only respite when he was wounded which still did not get him home to UK but in a military hospital in Egypt :-( :-(
