LynGinN Report 14 Sep 2015 17:19

That sounds dreadful! :-0 She certainly had an awful time of it

You can see the 1940 American census, it's not fair :-(

Gawd Barb...what a start in life :-( :-(

So you know the names of the people that brought her up?

Fly Report 14 Sep 2015 17:12

BarbinSGlos Report 14 Sep 2015 17:10

she told me that she had a rather rough time of it and they were quite poor. She also said if she was naughty she was shut in a cupboard. She also said she married the first boyfriend only to get away.

a funny thing she told me was that her **** dad **** used to send her out to buy snails, live ones for him to eat. She had a bucket and had to run and run to get home and not lose any of them on the way. :-D

They won't release the 1921 census early...simply because they have not made their minds up whether to do a 2021 census....hence reassuring the public who do the 2021 that it will remain under lock and Key for the said 100 years :-(

LynGinN

LynGinN Report 14 Sep 2015 17:07

I'm certainly looking forward to the 1921 census, too. :-D

BarbinSGlos Report 14 Sep 2015 17:03

Fly

Fly Report 14 Sep 2015 17:02

BarbinSGlos

BarbinSGlos Report 14 Sep 2015 17:01

See my last post Ann. I was lucky to find what I did :-) I have followed what I think is her mothers line, but just wanted to know who and where she was brought up.

**Ann**

**Ann** Report 14 Sep 2015 16:59

So she gave birth in the Infirmary associated with the workhouse, have you actually delved into the workhouse papers at your local archives if they exist?

LynGinN

LynGinN Report 14 Sep 2015 16:59

Barb, that is so sad :-( <3

BarbinSGlos

BarbinSGlos Report 14 Sep 2015 16:59

The page I managed to get from the records office listed 24 births with only 4 of them being legitimate. I was lucky to get that info as a lot of stuff was destroyed during the Blitz on Bristol.

Yes Ann. Her mother was transferred from another w/house to have the baby. I remember my mum saying she never knew her. But she didn't know WHERE she was born, thank the Lord.

**Ann**

**Ann** Report 14 Sep 2015 16:54

Are you saying your mum was born in the workhouse?
