lol Persie

Thanks for the advice :-D

I had planned on locking myself in the loo on Thursday night, with the radio on really LOUD. I think I'll take a couple of large hardback books with me.

I wish I knew how to play the trumpet. ;-) or a bassoon

Persephone Report 10 Aug 2015 03:50

Years ago, I had the barium enema one and after the procedure it was have a shower and back to work. The nurse told me I would have lots of wind and would be passing concrete.. I said I work in my own bookshop and have to serve the customers and she told me when I felt the wind coming to just bang a couple of books together.

Oh and I also drank more than 2 litres of the gunk.

Day 1 of the diet

Got a 'phone call yesterday morning, rellies on the way north......... they turned up last night........ somehow or other, a real dinner got forgotten about (long story), because they had a late lunch. We had nibbles (cheese & biscuits, dips, strawberries.... and a few drinkies).

I had toast & banana for breakfast.

I'm starving.

BBQ planned for dinner tonight...... for everybody else........... I'm having steamed fish :-(

I've told DH & rellies they can make their own salads etc, not fair to expect me to prepare food I'm not allowed to eat!

:-(

It's like cataracts - the anticipation is far worse than the actual procedure.

Stop worrying. You'll be fine. :-) :-) :-)

Good grief Sylvia, how on earth does your man manage 2 litres of the mixture? :-0

The two powders I had only needed to be mixed with a tumbler of water each. It wasn't that bad to drink either, it had a sort of citrus flavour though it was still better drunk as quickly as possible.

My second one was an afternoon appointment but I still had to have the second drink early evening so that I could get a good night's sleep after it finished working. Some chance! It didn't start working till 3 am and at 11 am I was panicking I wouldn't be ready to leave for the hospital at 1 pm.

All was fine and when I told the nurse this she said everyone reacts a bit differently to the drink but we all seem to make it to the hospital in time.

Lady Scozz, we all make it sound terrible but it really isn't that bad. You!ll be posting soon and telling us that you don't know what all the fuss was about :-D

the instructions with the powder OH uses say ...........

Mix one packet with amount of water (I think it is 1 litre)

Put in fridge for 1 hour.

Drink one 8 oz glass every 15 minutes

Repeat with the second packet, drinking it at the stated time ............ there's a period of 3 or so hours between drinking the two fluids.

It does actually say that the liquid tastes better chilled.

OH just drinks it as fast as he can so he tastes as little as possible

His exam is usually first thing in the morning, so he can drink the first lot between about 1-2 pm, we can go for coffee from about 2:30-3:30 pm because he's found that nothing happens after that first one.

Then he drinks the second lot about 4 or 5 pm

action takes place between about 6-10 pm, and then it is usually all over and done with and he can go to bed.

Just had a 'phone call from the clinic, confirming my appointment for next Friday.

Really nice woman on the 'phone, so I asked her if I could add anything to the powder mix to make it taste better, as I've heard it's really awful.

Another woman in the office had a probe last week, and she advised me to put some lemon/lemonade Gatorade in it. Mix the powder with warm water, add the Gatorade, and put it in the fridge. She said it's easier to drink when it's cold....... and also advised using a drinking straw, put the straw as far back in your mouth as you can!

:-(

I hate Gatorade :-(

You should see the forms I have to fill out... 10 pages of questions!

Supposed to complete the forms on the day of admission, but I'm doing a page a day :-)

Question on page 9 made me laugh.........

Have you had vomiting & diarrhoea in the last 24 hours?

:-D :-0 :-S :-S

Isn't it strange how the different places have different pre-test diet requirements? I went to a UK NHS hospital and had a strict diet for 48 hours, even to having to weigh out 100g of Rice Krispies with a measured amount of milk (not my favourite breakfast). The last solid meal was 2 boiled eggs with 2 slices of white bread and a scrape of butter. Then on to the clear liquids, including jelly but not red or orange. I could and did have green.

I was a bit concerned as hunger is a migraine trigger for me but I got away with nothing worse than a bad headache, and the sandwiches and tea I was given afterwards tasted like a banquet :-D

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 4 Aug 2015 16:30

OH has not had strict dietary restrictions except for the day before

For the 3 days before he has had to not eat red meat, and a couple of veggies (sorry can't remember which)

On the day before the test, he has had to have a liquid diet ................. consomme or clear broth, jelly (but not red or green), clear tea and coffee (ie no milk), clear juice (but not red), and water. Plus the two lots of "cleanser"

LS ................... your diet seems very strict compared with what we do over here.

Andysmum

Andysmum Report 4 Aug 2015 14:06

I didn't have any dietary instructions at all.

All I was told was that I should not eat anything after breakfast the day before, but should drink plenty of water. :-( :-(

Went grocery shopping this afternoon, jelly crystals on the list..... got Port Wine, Raspberry & Lime.

On the way home, picked up the preparation kit.

It states.......... jelly, but NOT purple, red or green.

:-(

geez, the diet! at the end of the week, I'll be looking forward to the probe, so that I can get back to REAL food! Steamed fish & pumpkin is not my idea of a nice meal. bleh.

I think I'll pig out this week :-D

LS .................

I doubt you will need a nappy!!

I found that it was all finished about midnight when I did it.

OH doesn't seem to have any product from that end after about 10 pm.

His appointments are always for 7 or 8 am ....... he does usually get a taxi to take him instead of the bus. The difference is about 20 minutes door to door by cab, vs about 45 minutes with a walk at both ends by bus.

All the liquid, with the soups, juice, coffee (a diuretic anyway!) and the "stuff", could mean lots of p*ing :-D

If the drive is about an hour, you might want to wear a Tena pad or similar :-)

......... or get OH to stop the car while you nip into the bush :-D
