I've been a continuous member since 2003 when I joined for a fiver, I think that's why it's so low.

Hi Barb, I do believe that's what happens, if you upgrade to Platinum THEN revert back to Standard! you end up having to pay for standard at the MUCH higher rate!
Joan.

Joan to be truthful with you I can't remember what I've paid before. Also have a feeling I was a member long before I signed up the last time...could be wrong :-)

Part of Email received 30/1/15.........
Just a little reminder (my name) that your Genes Reunited Standard subscription runs out on Monday, 2 February 2015.
Remember you have until Monday, 2 March 2015 to take advantage of your exclusive 10% renewal discount. ........................................................................................................ I find it rather strange that my subscription was running out on the 2nd February but had up to the 2nd of March to pay and claim the discount......... what would happen between these two dates would I have been able to use the site or not ? Is this GRs interpretation of 28 days notice....... :-S :-S :-S

Hello Emma,
I am thinking that you haven't paid as much as that before! The whole set up re membership fees is an absolute disgrace,it's taking GR rather a LONG time to get all members into the same boat!
Joan.

Looks like they will be asking for £17.96 from me in eleven days time.
Also shows I've purchased credits from them, which I haven't , don't have a tree on here.

If I go to the subscribe page it shows (this is NZ $)
12 month plan $3.50 per month Save 10%$3.15 per month* 6 month plan $5.16 per month* 1 month plan $10.95 per month
Did I pay that, did I heck as like.. I have been given 50 credits last year (unused) and 50 credits for this payment year.. so wonder if they are treating me as a new member each time.
Last year I got into an argument (would like to call it a discussion) because they told me I was invaluable and getting a 10% discount and they had increased it by helping themselves (auto-renewal). I immediately asked for it to be refunded and then the battle commenced. Lots of toing and froing and me asking Estelle to intervene.
They told me to pay and then they would refund and would you believe it, that in less than a month they had put the price up again. But no worries I paid in full and got a refund and ended up paying just under £8. I dealt with Alex.
This year I had my wits about me, (strange I know) according to the terms and conditions page they have to notify you 28 days before they increase your subscription. Now all of a sudden a soggy rice pudding came flying through the air telling me 10% discount loyalty and they had put it up again.
Ding ding, round 4 or 5 by now. I pointed out the 28 day rule and that if we have to adhere to it that they do too. They sent me an e-mail that did not make sense. I pointed that fact out to them and told them that we are all at various rates and the whole subscription thing should be fair and seen to be fair.
It got right down to the last day and Alison asked me if £8.95 would be okay and I accepted that. Liam asked me for my credit card details and I said they have not changed and they took the full amount and refunded the difference.
I have all this to look forward to again in June.... somehow I have managed to originally be a 19th April to 19th April and now I am a 2nd June to 2nd June.
BTW Liam also answers customer support on FMP.
This could all be avoided if they got it right first time.

Most of the people commenting on this thread joined before 2012, when all the changes took place and GR first said everyone was being moved to the same rate.
It would be interesting to know if all those who have joined since 2012 are paying the same rate.

#peels off socks and counts on both fingers and tootsies#
I reckon you are paying about £8.50 for six months Allan, so in keeping with some of the Ladies and Gents on here.
Still doolally how each member is calculated differently. :-(

My renewal is due in Mid July.
Cost is $18.00 for six months or $36.00 for twelve months
It's no that long ago that the six month renewal was about $15.00 :-|
This is also the first time I've been offered a twelve month membership
My Credit history:
17/04/2009 50 24/04/2009 0 16/07/2011 96 01/01/0001 0 16/01/2012 241 01/01/0001 0 16/01/2011 330 01/01/0001 0
I did buy credits in 2009 but not since :-S

Well some of us are being taken for Right Winkles, that is for sure!
Thanks Island for the two letters illustrating that there is no such thing as an individual answer to the queries, but churn out the same old reply!
Ann I joined in 2009 when you could either do 6 months or annually.
So it still seems to be clouded in ether.

If I had the patience to go through all the posts no doubt I would find the original template they used. ...just a little tweak here and there....!!
" Historically we have always allowed members to renew at the price they originally paid so long as it was not a special offer price."
My subscriptions to GR tell a different tale..

I knew there was something familiar about Liams reply to Joan.
Two and a half years apart! (asterisks added by me, I'm sure I don't have to explain why)
I wish I hadn't renewed, £8.96 isn't much but a pretty penny when multiplied by hundreds. I can have the pee taken out of me for free elsewhere.
Penny Eves Report 19 Dec 2012 11:17 Dear Penny, Thanks for getting in touch. Historically we have always allowed members to renew at the price they originally paid so long as it was not a special offer price. *However, over the past few months, we have been working hard to introduce lots of key new features including the Keepsafe, blogs, family history articles, new records and more. **As a result of these additions, we feel that it is fair to ask our members to renew at the current price. Your new subscription is the equivalent of just £1.66 per month. Genes Reunited continue to offer one of the best value subscription options in the family history market, and we hope that you will continue to discover your family history with us. Kind Regards, Lisa Genes Reunited Support Team ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Amokavid Report 2 Jul 2015 13:28 Dear Joan, Thanks for getting in touch. Historically we have always allowed members to renew at the price they originally paid so long as it was not a special offer price. *However, over the past few months, we have been working hard to introduce lots of key new features including the Keepsafe, blogs, family history articles, new records and more **As you may be aware we have not raised our prices for several years, but as a business, it is essential that we remain competitive. Whilst our competitors do not offer a loyalty discount we hope to continue offering this reward to our renewing customers, although we have had to reduce that discount from 20% to 10%. We hope that you agree that this is still good value for money, and we thank you for your continued support for Genes Reunited. With kind regards, Liam Kelly

Margee the difference between you and Chrissie is that you joined in 2004 when membership was annual. Chrissy joined in 2008 afte membership had been changed to 6 monthly.
