Hello All
A humid day today but forecast to be more dry sunny days for the next few days. Don't mind the heat too much, but hubby and I find the humidity unbearable.
Val Doonican has died aged 88yrs. I loved watching him on TV Saturday evenings on The Val Doonican Show. Real family-type entertainment. Sitting in his rocking chair wearing one of his many jumpers and singing in his relaxed easy style.RIP Val.
We have been watching WImbledon again and were pleased that Andy Murray won. It looked very hot for the tennis fans, we were lucky and happy to sit in cool lounge. An interesting game tomorrow on Centre Court when Serena Williams USA will play British girl Heather Watson. Should be worth watching. A chance for us to relax.
Pat, we watched the coffins being brought from the RAF aircraft at Brize Norton. We were both in tears seeing an unbelievably sad sight such as this. Just awful.
We will be joining the Nation in observing a minutes silence at 12 noon for all those who have died in the Tunisia shootings. May they all Rest In Peace.
If your son and family do turn up next week Pat..... will you act surprised?? I hope that you have enjoyed your meal out tonight. How is your OH back now?
I hope all Roll Callers will sleep well tonight and enjoy the sunshine again tomorrow.

Evening all :-)
Not out tonight, but am tomorrow. :-D
Can confirm John's body was flown back to Brize this afternoon.
Son has been acting oddly and today again out of character, a chatty e-mail, normal 1 or 2 sentences. Friends of his are coming out here next week and he's avoided answering whether he's coming out this summer. If he turned up with them I wouldn't be surprised. He's managed to surprise us before when he turned up unexpected with our daughter and her OH. We are very suspicious. Our friends dog sitting are the parents of the male coming with his wife, youngest daughter and her friend. Parents are going to the airport even though the family is picking up a car at the airport and know the way. We assumed a smallish car had been hired to save money and mum and dad were going to put some of the baggage in their car but....................do they have to also collect a passenger??????????
Will let you know next Wednesday. If he doesn't turn up it means he's actually communicating on e-mail. :-0 :-D
Your hot weather starts to cool again tomorrow, we were well under your temperatures again. Our summer is still delayed, it's ridiculous. :-(
The Greeks are entertaining us again. Glad the government here saw sense. Talking to a couple, who are tourists, yesterday and they wondered why we were all so calm about what was happening to the Greeks - they thought Cyprus was a Greek Island not an independent country and were shocked when I said it used to be British and was a member of the Commonwealth. Why do they think we drive on the proper side out here. :-D
Hope you all have a good evening and night :-) <3

Hello All
It is HOT, HOT, HOT and we just aren't used to it phew....... mustn't grumble though because we don't see that many sunny days. We are keeping inside and watching fashions of folk who are passing by in the road. Hubby says that some must have got dressed in the dark ha ha.
Good advice Pat to remind us all of the Slip, Slop, Slap, cancer campaign to get us all to act sensibly by slipping on a shirt/top, slop on the suncream and slap on a hat. There are three young lads working on a roof repair next door and all three are stripped to the waist and already their skin looks red.I bet they will be sore tomorrow
So sorry that your ex-neighbour has died and now has been named Pat. I hope that the reporters will recognize the grief that his family will be coping with and give them all the space they need to come to terms with so tragic a loss to them now.
I need to check when Andy Murray will be playing at Wimbledon today. We enjoy the tennis matches but aren't glued to the set like we used to be. We do like to follow the favourites though and we will watch most matches in the final week.
It's hard to believe it's the 1st July today already. So, a pinch and a punch for the first of the month which is what we used to say as children in the playground (very, very many years ago now). I'm surprised that I can remember that far back!!!.
I hope all Roll Callers will have a happy sunny Wednesday today.

Hello All
Very bright sunshine as forecast with even more hot weather tomorrow. A nice change to wear light clothes and ditch the woollies and jackets for a little while.
I did something really silly this morning. Hubby and I went shopping in village Morr*son* supermarket. He stayed in the car because he wasn't feeling very good and I parked the car in the cool shade and whizzed around as quickly as I could. At the till the amount came to £92 and although I was a bit surprised I felt happy enough because I had a £13 off voucher if I spent over £90 given to me last week but I couldn't find it in my purse and told the cashier I had one but had obviously left it at home gggrrrr. I was so pleased when the cashier said I could leave my loaded trolley beside her and go back home for the £13 off voucher. It only took a few minutes and the final shopping bill looked a less of a shock with the reduction. All's well that end's well methinks.
Pat, we also will be observing the minute silence on Friday at 12noon and join the Nation in remembering the victims in Tunisia who were slaughtered so horribly while relaxing on the beach just one week previously. No one seems safe anymore from these maniac terrorists. Our world is sadly changing and not for the better.
Jem I hope everything has calmed down with Granddaughter 1 accepting she was in the wrong and causing needless upsets to you all. Sorry you missed Karaoke!
It still feels very odd without lovely DIZZI, SHARING THOUGHTS OF HER DAY.
Hope all Roll Callers will enjoy a happy day. Take care now.

Morning all :-)
Now I want you all to promise not to squander your leap second at midnight tonight. I don't know if I will be awake as it's at 2 am here. Mind you I am going out tonight for a Chinese buffet so ............ ;-)
Feel better today just got bowled over with the news. Still not out in the media as I've just checked with the East Midlands news area.
Love the way they keep cutting the forces and then who do they call to get the injured and dead back - the RAF, hope they refund the petrol money as they have a tight budget. :-)
Kandj, I never thought you'd ignored me, having just checked I put my item on the thread as you were doing yours.
Thank you both for your comments much appreciated. We will be doing the minutes silence on Friday.
Jem my daughter was always quite good but once she slipped out of our village with a friend on a school day. She was 16 at the time. She told me she'd be at her friend's house and friend told her parents she'd be at our house. It was unfortunate for them that friend's father saw them return in a taxi, getting out at the edge of the village at the pub car park. Guess where friend's father was? Next morning he phoned me. He hadn't spoken to his daughter yet so we decided to tackle the girls when they came home. Daughter came home, I made her a drink and started chatting to her about her day - all normal then a quick, what did you do last night. Answer related to friend's house. I hit the roof because she'd not only done something wrong but lied about it. It was the beginning of the month so she was grounded for the rest of the month, 1 week for going, the rest for lying. She always told me where she was going from then until she left home. :-)
Hope your granddaughter learns her lesson like my daughter did. Your other granddaughter may not misbehave as she's seen what happens. :-D
Shall be watching the Greek problem today, they have been living beyond their means for years and the government is using the Greek ego to get a no on Sunday. If they told the truth and said it's our own fault and need to bite the bullet like Ireland, Cyprus, Portugal etc., I wonder what would happen.
Have a good day all, stay cool, drink plenty of water and remember, slip, slop, slap. :-D <3

Good Evening Roll Callers :-) :-) <3
It's been a really hot day here today! When I went shopping late afternoon it was 27c in the car! :-0 :-0
I won't go into great detail of Granddaughter 1's misdemeanours, as it is a forum that can be viewed by the general public, and not just GR friends.
Suffice to say, Granddaughter 1 has been very, very naughty. This involved not being where she said she would be overnight, but being in a totally different environment with other kids, who also were not where they said they were! Other factors of this situation were involved as well! Mum, Step-Dad, myself and her big brother, all of us up all night, were very worried and upset.
Granddaughter 1, was always quite sensible, but is now easily led when wanting to fit in.
Gran went over and read her the riot act last night. :-| :-| :-| She has never been told off by me before. Granddaughter 4 was most impressed!!:-D Needless to say, she is grounded for the rest of her life! :-D:-D
...AND I MISSED A KARAOKE NIGHT because of it! :-| :-| :-D
:-)PAT I am so sorry to hear about your former neighbour being killed in the shootings in Tunisia! How upsetting for you, Pat! What a heroic man, to sacrifice himself to save his wife!
It's a horrendous and heartbreaking incident. My heart goes out to all those lost or injured. Also to their families and friends.<3 How will those involved ever get over it!
I see you have been busy with your Family Tree. Isn't it fascinating, with all it's twists and turns. I call it Tresearching. I invented this term when my finger hit the T button at the same time as the R button when typing "researching". I was so impressed ;-) I have been calling it Tresearching ever since:-D :-D :-D
:-)KANDJ Your story about your Grandson's door slamming punishment tickled me! :-D :-D :-D That was a ingenious idea Kandj! "Let the punishment fit the crime" indeed!
I hope that you will have some nice new neighbours move in to the bungalow opposite.
~~~ to all Roll Callers :-) :-) :-)
Love Jem <3
The IS shootings in Tunisia is just horrific and heartbreaking for those who have lost loved ones in such a traumatic way. No one would even think of being on holiday and being shot dead when relaxing and enjoying a happy time in the sunshine. What on earth is happening in our world??!!
My condolences to those who have lost a loved one and sympathy for all who are affected by this devastating and distressing situation in any way at all.
Hello All
Nice warm sunny day today......... Summer has arrived methinks, I'll wait to see how long it lasts before I get too excited.
Oh dear Jem....... teenagers can be difficult and it seems like your daughter has her hands full too. I hope that things have calmed down with Granddaughter 1 and that the toddler and Granddaughter 4 are feeling a little bit better today (poor things).
Our teenage Grandson has had his moments! One time he used to annoy his Mum and Dad by slamming his bedroom door in a temper. He was warned repeatedly that if this didn't stop then the door would be taken off. J continued to slam his bedroom door when he was having a strop and his Dad went into the garage and got the screwdriver, then went upstairs and he undid all the screws and he took J bedroom door downstairs and put it into the garage...... surprise surprise as my son in law is the most patient person you could ever wish to meet. Needless to say J was gobsmacked (ha ha). He was told that he had gone too far and had ignored this threat for several weeks and now he had to put up with his open plan bedroom!! It took about two weeks of apologies and good behaviour before J got his bedroom door put back in place so that he was allowed the privacy that he had been denied. J never slams any doors now...... lesson learned ha ha
I hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine. It's a good tonic (much better than pills)..
Afternoon all. :-(
:-( This is how I feel at the moment. Had some terrible news late last night. Our ex next door neighbour contacted us just after we got back last night. Had a good night at the club with friends. Thought it was something about their trip out here at the end of next month. Turned out very different to that. Although his name has not been released a man who lived 5 houses from us in UK died in Tunisia. The man was in his 50's and he was shot whilst shielding his wife, their son was still in the hotel. Wife and son are back in UK. There is nothing in the press naming him so believe wife has asked for it to be withheld, maybe relatives don't know or she doesn't want the media about. I'm not naming them as this goes out into the public domain.
Am quite shaken by it. Know about terrorists and their activities I was in WRAF at the start of the IRA troubles and OH in RAF and working for MOD all his working life and we were targets all through the so called troubles. Funny we never knew anyone killed or injured then. Perhaps because I was prepared then and this came out of the blue that I'm so shaken up. It's not as if we knew them well, said hello in the street and swapped Christmas cards that's all.
On another subject - did our DNA today and sent it off so we'll find out more about our ancestors and will sort our daughter's cousins into the correct side of the family. She has 3 adopted people asking for help in her group so we'll be able help them by pointing them towards which ever of us link to them. It may narrow down their search, who knows.
Hope you all have a good evening. See you tomorrow. <3
Hello All
It rained throughout the night and this morning is a lot cooler than yesterday with more rain expected for today. It is a strange Summer and I never know how to dress when its warm one day and cold the next day. Yes Pat, we are forecast to have a heat wave but its only meant to last a couple of days so it is nothing to get too excited about really.
Pat your family history looks like keeping you busy for quite some time. It's irritating to hit a brick wall but exciting when it eventually all comes together, like jigsaw puzzle
Not a lot happening today, just reading the newspapers but such awful headlines of the ISIS terrorist attack on the beach in Tunisia. What is happening to our world??!!
I hope everyone is well and will enjoy today, whatever you have planned. Take care.
Morning all. :-)
Had a very quiet day yesterday and worked on my family tree. Didn't seem to get very far as I finished with more hints than I started with. I'm working on my father's maternal line. I've had a problem with this. My grandma's parents were William and Harriet Cooper. Lucky due to the area he was born found him with his parents and found their marriage and parentage. Unfortunately Harriet lived away from his village in a populated area nearby where there was a lot of work. I found more than 1 William Cooper marriage to a Harriet in the correct area/time span. Had to send for grandma's birth cert. Harriet Haywood was gt grandma's name. There were 2 born same area , same year even same quarter?????? 2 fathers were Joshua and Samuel so I sent for William and Harriet's wedding cert. Started on the Haywoods with father Samuel suddenly I've got just over 300 hints so sat down yesterday just after lunch and worked up to dinner time and started again after dinner and worked until almost 11 pm. Found the 2 Harriets were cousins, am back to late1770s and coming forward with Samuel's siblings. When I left it last night I had 328 hints left :-0. Think I've still got a lot of work to do. :-(
It's 25 C , windy and the sun's hiding behind cloud. It's still not a normal summer here. You're going to get a few warm days aren't you?
Hope you all have a good day. :-) <3
Hello All
Rain here today but should be fine tomorrow.... or that's the forecast and then rain again on Sunday. What's happened to our Summer? still the rain means a job less for me as I don't need to water the lawns and tubs (ever the eternal optimist me, ha ha).
Pat, you do have some great nights out. I'd no idea that karaoke was still going on, just shows what a sad life I lead!! So what songs did you sing in the wee small hours of the morning then? I had to smile as the wine obviously anesthetized your hubby's back pain. Perhaps he can get it on prescription!!
Not a lot going on here today. Too wet to do any gardening so I cleared a couple of drawers out, no idea why I kept old receipts from years ago but they're all gone now
We will have new neighbours across the road soon as the bungalow opposite has been sold after our friendly neighbour sadly died. Now everyone is wondering who will move into the road and hope they will be nice and pleasant folk.
Time for bed now for us (don't have the stamina of Pat and her OH), so it's Goodnight and God bless to all Roll Callers for now, and hope everyone sleeps well.
Not out tonight. Last night we had a great night, 12 went to a tavern, we had a great meal and chat. 6 of us then went on to the club where there was a karaoke night. Had great fun there and ended up in an eightieth birthday party celebration there. Crawled into bed at 02.30. OH had drunk enough wine that he didn't feel his back very much :-D. He wasn't too mobile first thing but it did improve during the day. He's drunk quite a bit of water today ;-)
Jem we enjoyed our Chinese thank you. Sounds a lovely time on your day out. There are times when you want to be in your own and do your own thing, glad you enjoyed it.
Kandj I have a diary and I keep it near the phone :-D
28 C high today but that cool wind was about again should have heard everyone complaining about our weather last night :-(
Have a good evening and night :-)
Pat, are you still checking the calendar so that you don't miss any invitations. It's good that your daughter is now interested in ancestors, Lots of research needed so you will be kept busy I think.
A fairly sunny and warm day today, so was a change to wear something nice and light and cheerful. Rain is forecast for tomorrow and weekend so a quick Summer!
Road works taking place in and around the village which is causing hold-ups. They seem to be resurfacing the main road through the village and putting chippings down. Don't like it because they are sure to mark the paintwork on the car.
Good Afternoon Everyone :-) :-) <3
The sun is shining here. Although it's cloudy, and now and again it looks as though it may rain, it clears up again. It's warm- 23 degrees in the car.
I had a lovely afternoon Tuesday. On a whim, I decided to go to my home villlage again. So I left the family to their own devices, and went all on my own. Sometimes you just need a break, I think! :-D
As usual, when I reach the top of the steep hill that leads down to my village, and I catch sight of the estuary and the village across from it with it's old castle, I know that I'm home! http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/keepsafe/asset/details/16369428
First I had an egg sandwich and cup of tea in a fold-up chair by the beach. Then I went for my usual walks.
The first one past the front of my old house around the block, passing the back of my old house and back to the square, Enjoying a tub of "Joe's" Icecream (vanilla with chocolate swirl sauce) while I walked! :-)
When I reached the square again, I spotted a very old and dear friend, who sadly is in really poor health now. He was in a mobility scooter he'd borrowed. He can't walk far now, as he has serious heart problems. :-( I haven't seen him for a lot of years, so we had a hug and a good catch up! :-)
I carried on my walk over the "Cliff" that overlooks the oldest part of the village which then drops down and eventually meets the end of the village leading back to the square.
Another cuppa and then a final walk over the dunes and the beach!
A really lovely day! :-)
I'm off out tonight for our dinner in the local and the Pub Quiz!!! :-D :-D :-D
:-)Social Butterfly Pat!;-):-D :-D Did you enjoy your Chinese? and what's on the agenda for tonight?
It's brilliant that your daughter has now also got the "Bug" that we family historians all suffer from, since doing her DNA. It's lovely when you can share exciting bits of information. My family are not that interested. I did think it would be something to bring us closer, but I fear they think I'm an obsessed bore! :-D :-D :-D
I'm sorry that your OH did not get to inherit the crown jewels after all, Pat!;-) ;-) :-D :-D It does sound fascinating! I shall look up "Worshipable Company of Haberdashers" when I get the chance!
:-)KANDJ The local shoe repairers was a good find! :-) If something is comfortable and has served you really well, it makes sense to get them repaired. Newer ones are not nearly as well made these days.
I wore one of my 3 bought pairs on my walk. A sort of raspberry/pinky muted colour sandals. They were soooo comfortable. The other 2 pairs I'm still undecided about!
I know what you mean about feeling unnerved when you don't quite know what's the matter. Our car makes a loudish noise sometimes. I notice it when I pull up to my daughter's, and stop to talk quickly with the window down, without switching the engine off! OH pooh pooh's it! :-| :-|Then I have to tell whoever has heard it, to tell him too!
Hope you are all well.
Hello All
Just a quick message as it's very late for me. Usually tucked up in bed ages ago.
We went to do shopping today. Usually prefer Mondays when its quieter but had to wait in for an electrician to sort out the lounge light fitting. We had barely got out of the road and the car began beeping.... I looked at the dashboard and it had nothing (usually says the door isnt shut properly) and so I carried on checking the petrol and oil/water gauge and all were fine..... it unnerved me, but when I pulled into the supermarket car park and went to get the shopping bags out of the boot of the car I found that the car boot door wasnt fastened. On our way home all was silent..... no beeping at all, such a relief too, but now I am wondering why this didnt register on the dashboard earlier!
Pat I used to take a size 3 shoe but now I find a size 4 is much more comfortable. We used to have 2 shoe shops in our village but we haven't any, hence another reason that I was happy to have my shoes heeled recently so I didnt have to go into town to buy any new ones.
Our niece is at Glastonbury and the weather is dry and sunny but I think that will all change by the weekend. She has taken wellingtons and waterproof clothes but she is young enough not to worry about trudging around ankle deep in mud and will enjoy being at the festival for the first time after following it on TV or radio for years.
I hope you all enjoy yourselves tomorrow whatever you are planning to do.
Past my bedtime, so I'll close for now. Take it easy everyone.
Morning all :-)
Crawled into bed at 2am :-0. Great night though. :-D
Quiet night in tonight, out tomorrow again. OH's back a bit sore last night so he'll be glad of a rest today. It's much better than a couple of weeks ago.
Daughter's DNA has thrown up 919 possible relatives on the data base. She's now handed the account over to me as family historian to track them down. She's very excited and now getting interested in the family tree. She had a vague interest and if I found anything news worthy she was interested but didn't seem to relate it to herself - now it's become about her and her relations not dad and mum's relations. :-D
Jem I am only a size 3 shoe and when I found a shoe that was comfortable I often bought 3 colours to go with everything. I've recently found some comfortable and attractive sandals, I now have white, pale fawn (they say nude) red and navy. I don't buy shoes often as I hate wearing them and this time of the year only wear them when out as I go barefoot at home. The winter shoes I threw away last November were 14 - 15 yrs old, the leather had given up the ghost. Never been mended, I'm not heavy on shoes and always polish them so they are protected. There just comes a time when there's nothing you can do. Same happened at the end of last summer, I had 6 pairs of sandals, worn over 9 months of the year, 4 pair were 9 years old and all past their sell by date and out they went as I started wearing winter shoes. The other 2 pair were 4 years old and ok so they are my shopping/ daytime shoes. :-)
In UK the newspapers still believe you can do long range weather forecasts - ask the weather people and they'll tell you it's impossible. The people who do look at the present pattern and match it to previous years and tell you the probable result - the newspapers then headline either summer washout or what a scorcher. I always judged the day from the previous evening's local weather forecast and looking out when I got up. In UK I never took weather for granted. Always had an umbrella and a jacket in the car during summer. :-(
Trouble with going out a lot is you wear 2 outfits per day so had 2 loads of washing yesterday and today I've got to do the ironing. :-S
It's 24 C and very windy, next door's cat, Mozart, has just arrived telling me something very loudly and plonked himself down on the floor near me. He doesn't like the wind so that's very likely what he was saying. :-D
Have a good day all and hope the weather's kind to you. :-) <3
