Thank you for getting in touch Joy,

It is true that we haven't added a poppy to the Genes Reunited website this year and I am sorry that has offended some of our members.

We are, however, commemorating Remembrance Weekend in other ways.

You will be receiving a newsletter from us over the weekend which has a Remembrance Day theme.
Aswell as containing images of poppies, this newsletter also contains other tributes to honour our heroes who have fought for our country.

With kind regards,

Nicky Doran
Head of Customer Services
Genes Reunited

I am just going to reply to him that NOT having a poppy on GR site is more important than a newsletter.

Why does Shelly think its about WW1 only,,,,,,,,,,,,No its a symbol for all killed in action,,,,from WW1 right up to todays conflicts where our military have lost their lives.,,,,,,and that includes all commomwealth countries.

Chris ..............

I had a similar experience 2 days ago ..........................

I emailed GR about something, and the reply talked about the exact reverse of what I was asking :-S :-S

If I remember correctly .............. the poppy went on here last year only a matter of days before Nov 11

I emailed and had a reply from Shelley yesterday.

To quote.

It is important that we pay tribute to those who fought in WW1 and agree that the poppy is an important symbol.

I replied saying I was not impressed by her reply.

Dear Chris,

We have included poppies on the Facebook page and in the coming email.

Now the first email I sent stated that I was NOT on any social networking sites.

Do not believe that GR team members are literate/understand the written word. :-S

Sylvia,,I have emailed them about NO POPPY just waiting for an answer from someone high up not the inexperienced staff that has to write what they are told to write.

Mersey

surely you know that GR hardly ever reads anything posted on the threads.

Try emailing them .........................

that might have an impact on them

I did think GR would have responded to some of the comments, but Zilch....not surprised really :-| :-S

I think it's appalling that there is not to be a poppy this year, it is not a big deal technically.

I AM a very regular Facebook user as the genealogy groups on there leave GR way behind.

Every month GR can find a technician to alter the details on their homepage for

"Ask An Expert"

eg: "Log in on Tuesday 18 of November at 9PM GMT +0 and click here to see if Anthony can help you."

So I see no reason why they couldn't have added 'something' to the homepage at least?

Please advise your members here why, in this centenary year of the start of "the Great War", Genes Reunited has decided, for the first time to my knowledge, not to have a Remembrance Poppy in its logo.

"Community Manager 4 Nov 2014 14:22
Hi everyone,

This year, although we won't be adding a poppy to our logo on the main site we have changed our background and profile picture on our Facebook page in the spirit of remembrance and encourage all of our members to honour the heroes in their family how they feel most appropriate.

Regards,

Shelley"

"In the Spirit of Remembrance" on Face Book - Hmm! ------- More like advertising there! No Poppy on a Family/Military site especially when it is a centenary year for WW1 ---------- Disgraceful! :-|

Aren't they proving, once again, who is the most important to them. It certainly isn't those of us who aren't Twits nor use facebook.

Sad that facebook GR group is given more attention than this site, when the facebook group is free and we are paying members on here. It all seems to boil down to when GR was taken over by FMP/Bright Solid, big business with no direct contact with members.

I had not realised that Estelle had left. :-(
