In the seventies I was working behind a bar................as I was pulling a pint, the rather ancient barman bent down next to me and started to put his hand up my skirt.

I put the glass down, thumped him hard on the top of his head then carried on pulling the pint....................and all that while chatting with the customer I was serving.

The barman stood up and scurried off, I told the manager who dismissed him on the spot. His wife was furious with him and threw him out the next day.

I keep hearing Rolph Harris being referred to as a childrens entertainer, I've never thought of him as that. I just thought of him as an older persons entertainer. he didn't fit the bill with me as a child entertainer

Sirius I was talking about that the other day - I suppose it makes sense if you think about it because they are breaking the law as it stood at that time.

You can't really apply sentencing retrospectively so I guess it is logical.

somebody I know was raped and left for dead
nothing was reported in the local press
two weeks later a young girl
was found the very same way in the same spot
nothing reported in the press
turns out there was an other attack
prior to these two still nothing reported
3 lives ruined by a selfish person unable to control himself
turned out the person who did these awful things
that cant be repeated on here
was a inmate at the local mental health institute(the hutton unit)
and he was climbing out of the secure unit onto the roof
and committing these attacks during the night
and laying hide ready to pounce

he was found unfit to plea so nothing is recorded on his record
so technically he is innocent until proved guilty

but we all know he did it
and what he did to those poor ladies was disgusting

I hadn't realised exactly ( but should have done so as it has been mentioned before) that the specific charge of "indecent assault" in a case of historical abuse is based on the definition at the time of the offence, and the sentence also will reflect that, rather than being what it would be now.

Very sad, for all the victims, and family and friends of Rolf Harris who did not know .

I would never have thought it of him to be honest, like most on here he was part of my childhood. It does make you wonder if you can actually trust anyone, aside from those closest to you perhaps.

And why was this so-called "Herbert" not charged?

It doesn't always need a court to say someone is guilty of something, as an instance.....

"Herbert was always following Mary, no matter what she did, there was Herbert, he made Mary feel uncomfortable, she told Herbert this, but Herbert took no notice of Mary and he carried on following her, Jill saw what Herbert was doing, as did Matilda, Bert, Gillian, Hettie, Zoe and Mark, in fact loads of people saw what was going on"

Herbert said "I am not guilty of doing what you say"

Jill,Matilda, Bert, Gillian, Hettie, Zoe Mark and all the rest of the people, said.....

"Herbert you are guilty" and he is.

A classic case of not going to court, but we all know that Herbert did what we saw, it's just Herbert lying to himself.

my son was in the army cadets and it was a sergeant who was the perpertrator - the army dismissed him in that post - they did a cover up at the time but when my son went to the police they dismissed the sergeant

These are two example that I had in my life:-

Between the age of 8 and 17, I was a Boy Cub, then a Boy Scout, then a Rover Scout, the man who was the leader of all three of these, was an elder of the parish church and a very well respected member of the community - many many years later, I was absolutely astound to read that he had been jailed for numerous indecent offences against cubs & scouts, he had been in charge of the three groups for nearly 20 years, over that time he must have had a duty of care for hundreds of young lads, yet until someone spoke out, it appears no one suspected anything.

At a later date when I was about 20, I was admitted voluntarily to our local psychiatric hospital with acute depression, the chaplain who visited the wards most often was the local C.O.E. minister - I remember several of the nursing staff telling me to watch that one as he had a thing about young men and if I was not careful I would get an invite to tea at his manse - if they knew what he was like why did they not ban and report him.

How on earth is saying that a person cannot be labelled as guilty if they have not even gone to court be classed as abhorrent?
I have apologised to AnnCardiff because I had no intention of causing offense but I do maintain that if there has not been a guilty verdict then in the eyes of the law that person is not guilty.

I have known about Ann's son's abuse for some years, have followed his struggle to get justice supported by his family.

Ann has told members about it before and also the outcome of the investigation. We can only be happy for her son that his abuse allegation was fully accepted.

There are many other men in the same position, some of whom I am in direct contact with, who are fighting every day for a public inquiry into the historical events in various institutions after they were IGNORED.

From my point of view the more publicity of successful conclusions in abuse cases the better. It gives hope to other victims.
