Seems like "Larry the Lamb" lacks a sense of humour, unless of course its against others by him.Whereas John the Baptist has joined in the possibility of a fun post. :-D

Just picking up from earlier - I mentioned "in crowds" cliques, etc and it was suggested this was bitterness - nah! not at all, there's no one here worth being bitter about.
That's not meant in a nasty way, no-one anywhere is worth being bitter about - life's too short. It's a fact of life that there are cliques and if you don't fit in that clique then you move on, so if it means you don't bother with this forum then c'est la vie.

Well Lyn I give this board a giant miss these days I haven't seen anything truly witty in ages It's a fairly endless drone of same folk same shit different day A little bunch of jokers who put up there stuff fully aware it will be reviewed as it's against the t&cs but moan and groan when they disappear The endless whine about RR and how all said people need to get a life without any idea of course about any bodies lives All rather tedious to me

well, for those of you who think the old days were the "good days", and there was no cliqueyness .........................
I looked on General Chat soon after I joined GR back in 2004 ...................... I didn't understand much of what I read, it was all so "in crowd"
What I did understand, I didn't like
and I was ignored on the couple of times that I posted
So, I crept away, and didn't return for 4 or 5 years.
There still is cliqueyness, "in" jokes, comments etc that no-one else would understand .........................
But that occurs in all organisations, groups etc ...................... those who join at about the same time do tend to share things with each other more than they do with others. They develop little "in" jokes, etc based on something that was posted years ago that means sweet fanny adams to anyone who did not see that thread on that particular night ................... and they stick together for the rest of their time in that group.
They may not mean to form a clique, nor do they usually intend to be unwelcoming to others, but the continual reference to things understandable only to them has that effect ..............................
witness Linda and Stella's chit chat earlier on this thread!
I've looked on GC more in the last 3 or 4 years than I have in all the previous years ................ because GR has generally become so slow and boring.
Most threads I don't even open ................... I'm not interested in reading jokes, others are not interesting to me.
More and more, I find myself sticking to the same 3 or 4 long-running threads .................... and then going elsewhere.
NOTE:----
you will not see me responding to any comments to this posting as I am away for the next 10 days :-)

I've been a member for 9 years.
Way back then I looked at some of the boards, posted on a few, and got NO response. It was a bit like being the new kid at school, and nobody wanted to be friends.
No problem...... I don't need it.
I tried a few times, but got no "real" response until a couple of years ago.
I join in some threads, have started some, same as a lot of you......... some of my posts die a very quick death.......... but that's fine, I don't expect everyone to be interested in the same things. I certainly don't lose sleep over it.
I've also learned to ignore the "fishing" threads. Why bother? :-| :-\ :-\ :-\

Having just spent time reading through this thread, I guess some posts may have been removed?
Like Sylvia, whilst I have used these boards for almost 10 years, I didn't venture on to Chat because everyone seemed to know each other and I felt an outsider.
I would occasionally watch some of the threads developed into the most unpleasant spats with bad language, insults and sheer nastiness.
As the research boards became slower and more boring, I began to join in more discussions on here and have had some lively discussions - especially on faith issues.
It's a well known fact that, as soon as JustJohn - and let's be open and honest - this is the person who is being targeted here - as soon as he posts a comment, it is more or less guaranteed that someone will criticise it.
I have openly stated in the past that, when he first joined the boards and I tried to help him to find his posts again, he was rather irritating - I make no bones about that whatsoever. However, over time I realised that there was more to him than met the eye. His tongue-in-cheek humour was missed by some and misunderstood by others, but it could be very clever.
It took me some time, but it was when any faith issue cropped up that I really began to see the man behind the name. He was often jeered, mocked and scorned for what he held dear but he stuck to his guns despite this.
Often, those who 'had a go' at him for his faith opinions had absolutely no idea of what they were talking about, but had to have a say anyway!
John and I were poles apart in many ways, yet united in one.
He has now been banned from the boards over some silliness and I, for one, will miss him.

I'll miss him too.
I didn't always agree with what he said, but he was lively!
I hope the ban is a short one.

It is the nature of social media that you get all sorts of people posting. Some people when they start off in a site take a while to find their feet and settle down. When John started posting on Chat he rather blundered in with both feet, was a bit confrontational and upset a few people. But he settled down and, particularly after he took a break, he added colour and interest to this board.
He has a strong faith and will not be browbeaten by anyone and some seem not to like that. Unfortunately there is particularly one person who inevitably picks on him whatever he posts and, as most people would, John bites back. Sadly he now has a ban. I hope he will eventually return to us because I, for one, think the boards are worse for not having him on here.

No idea why this thread was dragged up, I was the last one who posted on it on the 22nd, which was Sunday, today is Thursday :-S
Sylvia posted, then tells us she isn't going to reply, because she is away for 10 days, wonder why she posted? She asked us to" witness Linda and Stella's chit chat earlier on this thread!" unless she means me, my name is Lynda, there is no "cliqueyness" going on, I don't know Stella, Sylvia has stated she doesn't read all threads, if she did, she would have read that Stella dislikes most sport, I love it, so what we were having was banter, NOT "cliqueyness" of any sort. If Sylvia wants to stick to 3 or 4 long running threads, she'll never spread her wings, so most threads will appear "cliquey"
I'm a bit like you Scozz, post a thread if nobody replies I move on.
Cynthia, having been here since day one, I've seen it all to, I've also been the target of some awful things, like the time a member said it was me that made her try to commit suicide, bit difficult that, because at the time that happened, well it didn't happen, I was on holiday, this person was known to have mental issues, of course the "mob" appeared and my name was banded about to be the devil, and flowers were sent to said woman, who was "in hospital" only she wasn't was she, she was laughing her socks off. Of course when her "good friends" found out what the truth was, the felt silly, but never apologised. Another incident was the stalker who asked a member to go to my house, when it was for sale, to look around, then the other member on here who likes, every now and again, to post my maiden name, or where I live.
I am still here, I post things about things I like and enjoy, I reply to the same.
As for this thread being about John, Cynthia, you must think that, so if the cap fits ! BUT it isn't about John, it's about people who make others feel uncomfortable, the title says ........
"Is anyone not posting or reading the chat board because they feel uncomfortable with some of the posts?"
That's what this thread is about, others have posted there views, that's all. You have mentioned John, nobody else, I didn't know he has been banned, you have told everyone that, but am I surprised, looking at some of the threads he posted no I'm not.
I don't use the boards to gain mates, to influence people or to gossip, I use them to get help for my tree, to have a laugh, or ask an opinion, that's it. If others want to look for an inner meaning to things I post, then let them waste there time doing it.

I very seldom post on GR these days..last week i posted on Lynda's thread about the world cup, Lynda and i had some light hearted banter and within a day i had been rr'd. There was no reason for it and i don't know who did it, but the thread was re-instated. I did have a misunderstanding with Island but it was not nasty and we could not resolve it before i was rr'd. So this was my welcome back to posting after several years of hardly posting at all...was it so wrong for Lynda and i to have a bit of harmless fun? This board is slow and boring because too many people have forgotten how to smile.. I for one remember now why i stopped posting all that time ago.. petty people who have big egos post on here, all my old posting companions are on FB , we still chat and have fun, at least we don't get rr'd on there and the atmosphere is is lovely.

Thank you for letting us know Cyns. JJ has a very tongue in cheek sense of humour which took some getting used to.
Although AnnInGlos is correct, on some occasions it might have been better if he'd stepped back when asked. He did make the boards more interesting even if on occasions his opinions were based on erroneous 'facts'.
Let's hope that ban is temporary and that he'll be back in due course.

Several people (including me) warned John that if he kept posting the same thing time after time then he may well get a ban. He continued to post the same thing again and again. He knew it was coming but I expect he has taken it on the chin. He appeared to totally lose control and it wasn't pleasant to see. No matter what the provocation he shouldn't have done what he did.
I hope I'm not included in people having a go at John about his faith, I've studied many religions, particularly Christianity, so I, at least do know what I'm talking about. I don't agree with a lot of the teachings of many religions - or at least the way they have been interpreted down the centuries - but find the original writings quite enlightening. I would never have a go at someone just because they had a faith. I would have a go at anyone trying to impose their beliefs on others, though.
John has said on many occasions that he likes winding people up, knowing that doesn't make it any less annoying when he does it.
As for cliques - almost all my board friends are long gone from here but there are still a few people I like to see posting. I used to be a lot more wishy washy than I am now but I have seen too much foolishness here and don't tolerate it as much as I did. I like Lynda's approach of being more direct.

Be careful Lynda.. i would hate you to be tarred with the same brush i have been painted with..
Maybe we should not speak to each other again?
I mean i have been a member for a lot longer than most on here, do they think they are any different to those complainers that went before them.. those that never had any real friends because they were miserable..
wonder how long it will be before this post gets rr'd by one of them?

I think the reason Cynthia brought John's ban onto this thread was because for some reason his ban was linked to this thread. Something to do with Stella being RRd and John being accused of doing it which he is adamant that he didn't. He is really confused as to why, in this instance, he warranted a ban. I really can't comment because, after seeing the misunderstanding between Stella and Lynda and then the sorting out I didn't come on here thinking the episode was finished. All a bit of a mystery this time really.

Stella, thank you for your comment at 9.49. As you rightly say, there was no nastiness at all, just a misunderstanding. It was a pity that some mischievous member rr'd your post and another member deleted a couple of their posts. Nice to see you back :-)
All. Is it not against GR rules to discuss members who are 'on a break'? Just asking....

The thread went up at the same as a number of 'spat' threads were running. That could be why readers thought there was a connection, if it was a subconscious response.
It's a bit like someone mentioning they'd taken their child/other relative out of school for a holiday. A different person starts a thread on the topic 'Should children be allowed to go on a family holiday during school time?'. There's no indication that the new thread is linked to the old, but anyone who read the original post would have made an assumption.....even if none was intended.
