My reply from FMP after I emailed them to say I wished that I hadn't upgraded and renewed.

"Dear Wendy

I am so sorry that you have experienced problems accessing findmypast.

We are aware of an intermittent technical issue affecting some searches on our site and we have a team of our technical experts looking at this as a matter of urgency.

We hope to resume normal service as soon as is possible.

We are confident that this new site will provide a better experience for our customers and your patience while we work on the site is greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Laurie Spence
Findmypast Support Team"

I really did like the old format. I should have waited until they had sorted out all their problems before I rejoined but like others I didn't want to lose my loyalty discount. My big mistake was paying out even more to upgrade to the World subscription

Apparently, members of the Church of Latter Days Saints (Mormons) are to be given free access to Ancestry, Find My Past & My Heritage. They've always had free access via their research centres now they will be able to use any computer.

So now we know how they are really using our subs.

How big is the loyalty sub? My last offer was 10% -not a lot when you are now wasting so much time trying to find what you want.

I could have taken out another year of world wide US version for $59.99, which is what we now have but more than three times the price.

Think my black screen is now sorted I needed to remove the compatibility view.....not that FMP told me of course.

Now to see what else I cannot do on there

Sue In Yorkshire. Report 10 Apr 2014 13:10

Just received a reply from FMP and it don't look very good as they are taking no notice of their members.
After being a member of FMP for over 12 years,I will certainly not being renewing later this year.

This is the reply I received

Dear Susan

Thank you for your query.

In order for the site to improve, we need to embrace new technologies and by moving the website on to a new platform, we will be able to provide better features and release new records more often.

Among the many great features are: a striking, new family tree that enables you to upload a GEDCOM file for the first time and new record releases every week. If we do not move, we will always be limited feature-wise, and we will not be able to speed up the process of releasing new records.

This is just the beginning - our members will see many more new search improvements over the coming weeks and months which we believe will make the whole experience better.

We do appreciate you raising these issues. It genuinely shows how much our customers care about findmypast and the experience it provides. We know how engaged our customers are in family history for professional or personal reasons.
I do hope you can bear with us over the coming weeks as we work to continue to improve the service, not just rectifying the issues raised, but improving the overall experience for all customers.

As a goodwill gesture, I have just extended your findmypast membership by two months free of charge. I do hope that goes some way towards demonstrating just how much we value you as a customer and that we are listening to you.

Kind Regards,

Nicola

How depressing Sue :-(

" It genuinely shows how much our customers care about findmypast" - and their attitude shows how much they DON'T care about their customers.

I'm not sure that I want a two month extension with a 'team' that may well listen but ignores what they hear.

Pants on fire yet again.

jax

jax Report 10 Apr 2014 13:42

So if you complain they will give you an extra two months? I have noticed a few say the same on Facebook.....why would anyone want an extra two months when what they have doesn't work properly.

 Sue In Yorkshire.

Sue In Yorkshire. Report 10 Apr 2014 13:55

La Gooner and Jax.

I have sent then a reply back asking them to take the 2 months off my account as NOTHING will stop me from not renewing.

I aren't stopping where the team aren't taking a blind bit of notice of their members..
Mind you it was the same with GR not so long ago.

I love this bit " our members will see many more new search improvements over the coming weeks and months which we believe will make the whole experience better."

This, surely, is only coming about because of the swathes of complaints - otherwise wouldn't it have been ready when they changed over. :-S

I also love Island's comment " and their attitude shows how much they DON'T care about their customers.". Especially relevant when they insist on putting everything on Facebook rather than their own Forum. All users of FMP can access the Forum, All users of FMP DO NOT access Facebook.

They never offered to extend my membership but I had already paid and so they had my money :-)

nameslessone Report 10 Apr 2014 14:58

Tenerife Sun - it seems to take at least two emails to them to get the extra two months.

Joan, the belief that EVERYONE uses all forms of communication is something I don't understand. It is one of my big beefs. I don't need to be on Facebook or Twitter, I can communicate effectively face to face, by phone, text, email or even letter. I know some people who don't even have a computer (or a blasted smart phone) - they are not too old - they just don't want/can't afford one.

I have seen on the FMP Forum that they are no longer answering their phones. But they only told the Facebook users - wouldn't it be the none FB users that were using such an old thing as a telephone?

nameslessone

nameslessone Report 11 Apr 2014 08:21

Not had that one yet.

It would be better if they 1. Stood up and confessed to their mistake (somewhere where everyone can read it i.e. not Facebook)

2. Gave us a list of what the 100 will be. (I expect the 100 refers to world wide records - not much use to me then!)

nameslessone Report 11 Apr 2014 08:50

OK. I can they've sort of made a start on my point 2. It's on their home page. But I do wish they'd make their old records sets better before adding new ones.

That's a very interesting article namelessone.

I received an email from the Society of Genealogists today saying that they were running a course on using the new version of FMP.
Sadly it is fully booked .

Says something, doesn't it, when they have to run courses for (presumably) experienced researchers.

FMP also had to run a training session for staff at The National Archives.

Last night after reading that email I decided that I would try and resolve the difficulties I had with FMP as I have 7 months membership left to run.

First I read the "news" part and that explains some of the areas and how to search them.
Secondly I waded through the 60 pages of the A - Z to see which records were available.
There were records there I hadn't even heard of and some were really interesting.

I did initially have trouble getting back to the page I was on and ended up back at the beginning each time :-S :-S :-S
but eventually I solved problem by holding back button and seeing the history and clicking on the correct page. Duh didn't even know I could do that.
You learn something new every day ;-) ;-) ;-)

Happy searching :-D :-D :-D

I'm still finding it user unfriendly, very long winded. :-(

Has anyone managed to view a census image yet?

Yes I can view Images now

I had the compatibility view setting on for FMP....now removed it and it is fine
