Mauatthecoast Report 5 Dec 2013 18:12

Very bad here today. Fierce gales, sleet and snowy rain :-(
.....waves have come right up the beaches and up the sea walls.
River Tyne has flooded over North Shields quays, can't say I've ever seen that before!!

Fly - there are a lot of flood defences in place now, particularly around the fens and marshland areas. There have only been warnings of possible evacuations. There have been warnings in recent years, but I don't think there actually have been any, they are just playing safe

Fly

Fly Report 5 Dec 2013 17:42

GiN It is because of 1953 that they are doing it they don't want

it to happen again.

LondonBelle

LondonBelle Report 5 Dec 2013 17:38

My OH has just told me that they are closing the Thames Barrier due to the high tides and high winds.

GinN

GinN Report 5 Dec 2013 17:33

Fly - I think they were going to do this at Great Yarmouth and maybe on the north coast, as the tides are expected to be high. I will watch the local news later, to see what is happening. I live well inland in West Norfolk, well away from the coast. The last great floods in Norfolk were in 1953, and many lives were lost.

LondonBelle

LondonBelle Report 5 Dec 2013 17:30

Yes, GiN we had a fantastic sunrise too :-D but as the old saying goes 'red sky in the morning shepherds warning :-(

LondonBelle

LondonBelle Report 5 Dec 2013 17:27

We had a squally shower about an hour again with the rain lashing against the windows and the trees amost bent double :-( Apart from that it's been very breezy but nothing too desperate thank gawd :-D :-D

GinN

GinN Report 5 Dec 2013 17:25

Wish we had snow! I love a bit of the white stuff :-D :-D :-D

We've had high winds and blustery rain, but it's all calmed down now. We had a really glorious sunrise, though. :-) :-) :-) :-)
