I remember Dreene Kay, it's funny how some unimportant names stick in your mind.

I went to Italy in the late 50's, nobody else I knew had been out of the Country, how times have changed, it's now more like unusual not to have been out of the Country.

Sharron I loved Tommy Steele, I saw him in a Cinderella pantomime, at The Palladium I think it was, and he spoke to me from the stage, I was about 8, loved him ever since :-D

I was born in 1950 and my dad was still in the fleet air arm and lived in north cornwalll I was lucky enough to live on a farm in the 50s lots of fun playing in the fields going for picnics to the beach and being very naughty with my friend like setting light to hedges witch in turn nearly set the hay loft on fire, they were best years of my life apart from meeting second husband.

Ann - I wish we could meet and and have a chat about the 50's. I'm sure we did the same things and enjoyed ourselves.

Tommy Steele.

I remember my cousin and me spending most of an afternoon arguing about how Tommy Steele would jump across the path.

the fifties were fantastic - and we were all so innocent - no sex before marriage - too frightened - my Dad always said we'd be thrown out of the house :-D

you only got to have sex if you married :-D - and those of us who walked down the aisle in white deserved to be wearing it :-D

Lawrence got called up on the tail end of Natonal Service, RAF - and he got posted to Singapore - I wept buckets as he was gone for nearly two years - no mobile phones, we didn't even have a land line so it was all letters - three a week each way - I thought I'd die of a broken heart. We didn't even know where Singapore was until we looked on the map and our hearts sank - what a lovely homecoming though - he came home in the middle of the night on December 8th 1958 - I had left a key out for the back door for him - I couldn't sleep and lay awake waiting - Mum and Dad and my sister fast asleep - then I heard our old spaniel growling and I knew he had come in through the back door. I ran downstairs and we met in the hall - what bliss after all that time - it's so lovely to remember that time now he's been gone for so long - such happy memories

Talking of shampoo,,,,

anyone remember ===Dreen/e in a little polythene pouch and Vaseline Soapless that was like rice paper,,,,,,also everyone used setting lotion and Vitapoint,Max Factor Panstick,also the spit on Max Factor mascara........Pompador Hair Lacquer.

Lynda - I have so many memories from this era that I could write pages and pages of everything that happened to me in Geordieland during that era.
The mind boggles.

at the moment I have Sky Arts channel on "Pasadena Roof Orchestra" - heaven :-D

had my first holiday in a hotel - in Newquay in Cornwall - the Garth Hotel - with my frend Marion - we're still good friends. The music of the day was Kay Starr with Wheel of Fortune and Eddie Calvert with "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White"

Paul Temple was the detective series with the Coronation Scot as the theme tune - his wife was Steve!!!! always stopped at a cliff hanger!!! e.g. "Are you alright Steve" - "Yes Paul - I'm holding your hand", "Steve, it's not my hand you're holding" - cue music!!!!

I am with Ann C the 50s were great. I met my OH in 1956 and married him in 1960 and can remember and emphasise with all Ann remembers. Such carefree times. :-)

I wasnt born till the late 60's so only remember the early 70's when I suspect most of you ladies were married with young children of your own......was laughing at the lyrics to the Mary Hopkins song...I knew every word and would sing it when I was a toddler appartenly ...before I could string a sentence together I even looked up the date it was in the charts just before I was 2 :-D

Children's Favourites with Uncle Mac who was, allegedly, at it before JS.

I am not sure if we had a TV at the end of the fifties but I do remember Mr Pastry and I think I was taken to see him in a film.

Dick Barton - special agent - remember that in late forties.
He had wonderful adventures with Snowy and Jock.

Fifties - was a teenager - circular skirts - some reversible so two for one! Some felt circular skirts with cutouts sewn on them.

Trad jazz, Chris Barber, Humphrey Littleton, ballet shoes - all colours. Fluorescent socks had a shocking pink pair I wore with a pair of navy slacks!! Duffle coats came back - this time in colours and about 3/4 length. I had a red one.

Taffeta paper petticoats - net petticoats stiffened with sugar water which plucked your stockings and at 10s. per pair, little wonder we repaired the ladders. Also usually in the window of a dry cleaners a lady would be repairing nylons!

Jive, Elvis, Bill Haley, I also loved ballroom dancing. Girls who wore dark stockings were up to no good - not that I had a clue what 'no good' was! Never get into a car alone with a boy - same result - 'no good'. Never trust a lad who wore suede shoes.

Sunday nights - Radio Luxembourg and Top Twenty. Had to be home by 11.p.m. on saturday night - missed all the endings of films! Girls never went into pubs - it was coffee bars and milk bars.

30 minute in Woolies deciding which shampoo this week would make our hair wonderful.
