From my genealogical studies I have learned that there was at one time a dire shortage of different surnames available to the Welsh. In 1891 for instance in excess of 93% of the population were either a Jones, an Evans or a Williams. This of course could easily cause confusion as to exactly which Jones, Evans or Williams in the community people were referring to when they were talking about them. |
