It doesn't matter what the subject is it can go off tangent if anyone so wishes...it can also disappear down the boards never to be seen again....I don't see why anyone needs to give a reason why they have started a thread.

I'm English and from Essex (part of London now) so are my parents and grandparents....before that the counties close by

You have admitted that you reported the thread and that you were "upset by title and very old content" so it does not make sense for you to continue to post surely.

I am a bit of a mongrel. Mother Welsh, father English. So best of both worlds. I have always thought of myself as Welsh and love everything to do with Wales. Have lived half of my life in Wales, half in England. Can speak both languages.

Father's family from Shropshire, Herefordshire and Radnorshire (so Marches).

I think you know where you belong. Some say Britain, some say England, some Scotland, some Wales. I am Welsh, very proud of that, and will always be very proud of that.

I would like to point out that I have not accused anyone of racism. I just asked what was motive in starting this thread. I doubt it was "just a bit of fun" but I don't know. And Errol refuses to tell me. So Genes will have to review what was said.

No cos one is singular and the other plural....you don't say 'safe as a house' do you? but you could say 'safe as sheep' if a crowd was gathering :-D

No Jax my Dad was born in India same as Sir Cliffy however at the time Indian was part of the British empire and my Dad was born on a Bitish Military base so no he wasnt India he was English :-D

Incidentally, does "safe as a sheep" mean the same as "safe as houses"?

Oh I so want to say that as John is not Welsh you are safe as a sheep but I daren't ;-)

My mate old Foggs (Foggy ) to you, was born in England, but his parents and everyone back to god know when are Scottish, so I say he's a Jock, but he is adamant he's English :-D :-D

my son was born in Wales, but both parents and grandparents are English so he is not Welsh. and even if he had lived there all his life and we had not moved he would still not be Welsh.

Now if I wanted to become an Irish citizen having an Irish gt grandfather is of no use to me.

"Unless at least one parent or grandparent was an Irish citizen at the time of your birth, you cannot claim Irish citizenship on the basis of extended previous ancestry (that is, ancestors other than your parents or grandparents). In addition, you cannot claim Irish citizenship on the basis that relation such as a cousin, aunt or uncle was an Irish citizen if none of your parents or grandparents was an Irish citizen at the time of your birth."
