I have always called you bob I think Lady Scozz I call Scozz because that is what you were before. Liz I always use your name without the x. Sylvia I always call you be your name I think. Not often these days 2 Sylvias on one thread. sue, there are as many Sues/Susans as Anns I think but not usually all on a thread at the same time.

I don't care what people call me on the boards as long as it is not blatantly rude and offensive, being a Scotsman and also having managed a scaffolding company for many years, I was called several names, some amusing and some which I could not mention on here ;-)

Anyway my motto is:-

Sticks and stones may break my bones - But names will never harm me.

People new to boards have never heard of these made up names. They can be very confusing. It is like going to a formal ball where everyone wears a mask. Comus of the computer world.

I am glad TheBlackKnight has said his piece because I found his nomenclature the most confusing.

When I began he was 5EXY. Five - EXY. I genuinely thought it was SEXY and got told off by him for calling him SEXY. So we live and learn.

And still have no idea how he wants to be addressed. I use TBK, but that might offend too. And the poster who posts as OneFootintheGrave. He is OFITG, OFG. Who knows what he or she prefers?

And no one has addressed me yet by my preferred shortened board name :-S :-)

I try to use people's Christian names if I know them and if they put them on the boards but with others who post under different names and don't use a Christian name I just use the board name.

I always sign off with my name and an x after it, bad habit as I now have to remember not to add the x on texts when it wouldn't be appropriate and emails too lol

I was origianlly Sylvia ................... but there was another Sylvia with quite a nasty reputation and I was mistaken for her,

so I quickly changed my Board name to Sylvia (in Canada), then GR wouldn't allow ( )

So I became Sylvia in Canada

GR soon would not allow that

so I became SylviaInCanada ................ after having tried SylviainCanada ......... which looks much worse!


I do wish GR would bring back the ability to have spaces or parentheses in Board names



I often sign my posts as Sylvia, especially when it is the first contact with someone


Like Ann ........ I really do not like being addressed as SylviaInCanada ................ especially if I have signed as Sylvia.

Equally, I like to be distinguished from any other Sylvia on the site. :-D

Lol MTG as I said there are people who prefer not to use their names and that is fine. Yeh, crotchety it is an age thing I reckon.

Well my name certainly isn't Motown!

When I write PM's to people like Island, Wend, Cooper and other lovely people, I do sign my name, or least a diminutive of it! But no one calls me it on general threads. Which is the way I like it.
