Liz she is on a superannuation based pension - she earns a lot more than many retired people.

As said earlier, her complaint is not based on her actual savings or income. That being the case, she should pay her dues like the rest of society and complain through the proper channels.

If it wasn't for taxes and so on she wouldn't even have the enviable pension she is now drawing.

To cap it all, it would appear that she was quite happy to accept an anonymous person paying her previous taxes. She accepted that. If she wants to make a stand then pay back that generous payment. It is nonsense. She claims that she is doing this because she disagrees with the system etc but she is quite happy for someone else to pay? That does not work in my book. Either she agrees with this tax or she does not. Someone paying her council tax and her accepting it means that she agrees with it in principle. Double standards - or some may even say con artist?

This article from two years back explains a bit more, in that June hasn't got much worth the bailiffs while taking. She has been campaigning locally for years and fighting for this cause she believes in.

As she said she could have spent £3000 and then claimed benefits but didn't want to do that, just wanted to be able to manage on whatever income she has, maybe only basic state pension and some work pension from her own work or a husband's.

I seem to recall that a while back she wanted to go to prison and was angry that someone paid her bill for her.

Diversionary tactics sometimes work but not in this case.

This person needs to look at themselves and realise how ridiculous they are coming across.

The woman this thread is about I mean of course lest it be taken any other way.
(why do I always have to qualify everything I say these days) ;-)

wish I had 16K - I have no savings left whatsoever

and as Errol says John - where's the apology from you to him and OFITG

second thoughts Errol - you won't get one - I never got one for being called idle and apathetic by him

Well she's spending her money keeping herself glam then, good for her :-D

The reason I said about her mental state was, we have a local man, who is "not the same as the rest of us" he's a great charachter, always happy, it's a treat to see him, brightens the day he does, but if he didn't pay his way, I don't know what a court could do with him, I think he's so liked, locals would probably pay his fines :-D

A couple of years ago she states she was getting £9000 in pensions....surely she can afford council tax out of that?

John,
Have you factored in the tax deducted on her interest ....

Have to agree though ...
That If you spend from savings ... they deplete - have noticed that phenomenon myself , many times .....

Perhaps, it is the class thing ... And, . she wants to spend the net interest fom her capital - on online bingo ..... who knows .....

And why speculate John ...... She has stated she wants the capital for future repairs on her house

And bye the bye ... iI shall be writing to Norfolk CC asking why her 3 bedroomed spilt level house detached house ...

Is in a lower CT bracket than my 2 bed, one level detached bungalow

Has anyone considered that this story probably has a lot more to it than what has been reported, I.e maybe the lady in question is mentally unstable, or has other problems? I don't think I've ever read a story in a newspaper that prints all the facts, or for that matter the whole truth. :-D

May I have an apology and retraction please John?

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 19 Jul 2013 20:26

I cannot read into mind of this lady, but that £16k may represent a part of her income. Perhaps she is getting 2% on a 12 month notice account and the £320 interest is factored in as part of her income.

If she then has to bite into her £16k to pay these bills, her £16k depletes slowly at first but within a very few years she will have little capital left and hardly any interest.

It is a class thing perhaps. Spend the interest on your savings, but never touch the capital is middle class. Spend everything you've got, sell an equity share in your house and get Mr Duncan Smith to eventually bail you out is not the way many of us were taught.

I can see a bit of both sides here. It is 'right' to pay your bills if you have the means to do so and I would always do that. Some have had the income and inheritance in their lives to have been financially comfortable and able to pay their bills later in life, but chose to 'live now and pay later', tomorrow never comes. It does seem unfair that they have had their cake and eat it as, when their money has gone, they get their bills paid for them, yet those that were frugal and have savings have to pay. That is just as morally wrong.

Gins I wasn't knocking beans on toast at all - love it.

What I meant was that some people seem to mistakenly think that if you eat beans on toast you must be from a certain social standing if you see what I mean.

Mind you it is all relative.

If one could afford lamb chops at 12 quid for a couple or so then maybe one wouldn't want to eat baked beans.

Me? I am gonna have baked beans on toast for supper tonight.

With a caviar starter naturally.

Edit ...... forgot to say .... I hate baked beans ...
Love haricot beans but not cooked tomato ......
