They should have made her pay now! The woman has savings which she is jolly lucky to have managed to hang on to.

Now I shall shut up before I offend people.

Can,t see what she,s moaning about.anyone else would have had the Bailiffs sent in to take what was needed to pay off her debt,she,s lucky the council are being lenient with her.they,ve probably put a charge on her property to ensure they get the money owed with interest,and In my opinion so they should,just wonder if they,ve been so lenient with others.

Who cares whether she is a pensioner or someone in their 30s...she has savings she should pay.

I don't particularly want to pay £825 a month rent...much rather have it paid for me in housing benefit....but I have savings so I get nothing

She has already had an anonymous person/s pay on her behalf last time,,,,had I been that person/s and now read the extent of her savings I'd be a bit miffed,,,,,,,,yes lone pensioners that live week to week on just their state pension are facing the same who live or own houses ,,,,,,,why doesnt she pay her dues and then campaign against the unfairness of all who is in the same boat,,,,,I'd then feel more sympathy for her cause.

£16-grand aside isnt potless !,,,,,,,.I'd say a real healthy nest egg.

If an agreement has been reached and is legal the council will get their dues at some stage,and without interest..!.

The council just want to hope she doesnt spend it all before she expires. :-D

Quite a few things in life are upsetting but, as this lady has savings of over £16,000, she should pay her bills. There is no need for her to plead poverty to such an extent - there are people far worse off than her who still do what is right by paying their bills.


We don't like parting with our hard earned money to pay Council Tax out of our pension either, but we stump up and budget accordingly.

I'd like to pay all my bills when I've popped my clogs, then I could buy that little place in Tuscany I have me eye on now, then everyone else can have what I owe them out of that.

Now what do you find disgraceful ? The lady not paying her dues, like the rest of us, or the way the council have gone about collecting the monies owed ?

Or, perhaps like myself you find the Council Tax System severely flawed

Just like the Inland Revenue, they will have a call on her estate.

I think they would have the power to force bankruptcy upon her and that would be far more upsetting.
