Nolls from Harrogate

Nolls from Harrogate Report 22 Jul 2013 16:57

Of course you would Lyndi as for the cats ...hmm! well got one ... son emigrated so ended up with this one but she has brought all the neighbours cats to our house...and that is a story for another thread or I'll be told I'm hijacking :-D :-D :-D
Might tap you for some ideas though to keep them at bay (not ours of course)

Lyndi

Lyndi Report 22 Jul 2013 16:19

Haha Nolls, If I was in charge I would give you a rebate of course - I would also ban cats from going outdoors unless on a lead ;-)
And if I was very clever I would invent a pressure mat that would bark and spray water on any cats that got out and came in my garden. :-D

Thanks Potty and Lyndi was only asking with tongue in cheek ours goes off at 1am but doesn't go on again till following night in summer and like you Lyndi 5.30am in winter. Hope Potty they don't charge you extra!!.... Just thought a change of subject could get people back to calm :-) OR I sometimes have the effect of frightening off peeps altogether :-D

Potty

Potty Report 22 Jul 2013 16:02

Come up here, Nolls. Since the electric poles were replaced about a month ago, some of our street lights have been on 24 hours. 7 days a week - so much for saving electricity!

Lyndi

Lyndi Report 22 Jul 2013 15:37

They don't get a rebate here in the streets where the lights are switched off Nols.
They go off 12.30am I think and come back on at 5am here. :-D

OH! Dear when will this thread end :-S ........But on another note changing the thread slightly seeing there are a lot of people talking about rates I wonder can anyone tell me if I am due a reduction in my Rates because H/g CC is now switching off our street lighting at 1am and we are in pitch dark ..... could fall over if out.......to be honest think it is perhaps a good way to save money but not had it that long (few months) to see if it's safe enough for house owners :-S

Kitty.
I still haven´t worked out whether Cupcake is indignant that the woman hasn´t paid, or the fact that the council are saying it will come out of her estate either.
Perhaps Cupcake would like to tell us what her stance is on this.
Was the OP deliberately ambiguous?

KittytheLearnerCook

KittytheLearnerCook Report 22 Jul 2013 10:45

This is an interesting topic Cupcakes, as the OP can be read either for or against this lady and her actions, I am genuinely interested in your views on the story.

Any chance of sharing them with us please?

If not, no problem :-)

KittytheBrillCook - she's fine. She is posting elsewhere.

Incidentally, I'm still waiting for an apology but I shall not hold my breath.

I think what is very telling, as said earlier, is that it is not only on this thread where the general consensus seems to be that she is wrong, there also seems to be a lack of public support generally.

Maybe, just maybe, if she had not accepted the anonymous payment people may have thought differently.

Sometimes John, your tongue in cheek comes across as foot in mouth or digging a hole for yourself :-)

Supporting her or not doesn't make any of us right or wrong, we are simply expressing our individual opinions.

Still waiting for CC to come back to this thread....I hope she is alright.

My comment was a bit tongue in cheek, Cynthia. I know how very active you are. I have been impressed by just how involved some members of Genes chat are. And, up until now, mostly we seem to defend the individual against rules and authorities. Suddenly we have seemed to have changed on this thread and lady has had very little support for her 3 year battle from Genes chatters.

Old? Moi? I quite like being called an oldie or a coffin dodger - bit of harmless humour there. But being called "old" or "elderly" somehow upsets me. I rather like the definition that an old person is someone 20 years older than you. Though I have recently met quite a few in their 90's who I honestly would not describe as old yet. They have a good life, still drive, still have most of their faculties and think positively about the future. :-)

John, take a look at my avatar.

I campaign for a better deal for adults with autism and have been doing so for over 10 years.

I have played merry hell with those in our local authority.

I am 'known' to many, many, many people.

I have been in the newspapers.

I am on friendly terms with the Shadow Health Minister - who is local.

I am willing to abseil from Big Ben if it would further this cause.

I will fight tooth and nail for what I think is right.

Meantime, I have to put up with the system as it is and do my best to improve things as and when I can.

You may consider me to be 'holier than thou' but .................

...........................................I always pay whatever I owe.
