Two things I have wickied today. Father of her two boys at beginning of programme was Nicky Henson. They divorced in 1975 but are on good terms. And she has known Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes) since he was 4 as his mother was her friend Wanda Ventham.

Well, I never knew that. I do remember Nicky Henson and Wanda Ventham very well from those days - Nicky was dashing and handsome, Wanda was gorgeous :-) :-)

I didn't know that either John, that Benedict was Wanda Ventham's son, I remember her also, and just looking on google you can see a strong resemblance, I think.

To be honest I found it a bit boring tonight....... I loved the mill though.

Think Nigel's a very good looking man (so looks like me). And enjoyed programme very much. He looks like his grandfather Sir Cedric Havers, I thought. And the old uncle was great - still on top of his game at 94.

Not sure that mill masters and hackney masters made him ordinary. These would have been the movers and shakers where they lived and were the employers and took the risks. Not many working class ancestors would have been made bankrupt and managed to get their widow a nice house and income for over 20 years.

That is true John, not as if they were Ag Labs like many of mine.

Hayley, I like him because he always looks mischievous and also because I think he is a good actor.

His uncle was fantastic for his age, very sharp.

I did find one or two bits at the beginning boring though.

.....and Nigel thought his ancestor 'a bit of a lad'?....bet the servant's father didn't think so ....she took owner (child's father ) to court over the matter didn't she?

Not posh ? Give over! His "unposh" family had a live in servant (the young lady that Nigel's ancestor impregnated).

Like everyone else - i don't think so.
my lot were ag.labs. and thought that they had gone up in the world if they became INDOOR servants.

Nigel said that he felt sorry for his (male) ancestor, who had lost two children. What about their poor mothers.

There didn't appear to be a grave marking the burial spot of the illegitamate daughter. Not much care there it seems.

I was hoping that this programme might change my opinion of Mr Nigel, but no, I still don't like what I see of him.

(this is no reflection on his acting ability).

Wasn't Minnie Driver meant to marry Barbra Streisand's son a few years ago, but it was called off? (Can't remember who he was). Sorry, nothing to do with the programme, just wondering. :-)
